Thoor84 (8), , Iceland does not count - explanation | | May 8, 2012 Pretty much perfect for beer geeks. Love this place.. was there 3 night in a row, and just didnt want to go since there was always another ’must have’ beer. The selection is just amazing and the staff super friendly.
dont go to manchester without a stop at port street beer house!! | | Tim Webb (106), Cambridge, England | | May 2, 2012 Well it’s the future, isn’t it. Seriously ballsy beer list at ballsier prices justified solely because they can - wait till craft beers become mainstream in UK bars, hotels and restaurants. The most intelligent beer selection I have come across in the UK to date. | | johanvan (13), calgary, Alberta | | April 26, 2012 Stopped in with some clients from overseas on the recommendations of a local and was blown away. One of the best beer selection I have ever seen; almost daunting. They had about 10 beers listed from Goose Island (Chicago Il) although most were out of stock. Food was fab and the space was very modern and hip. Can’t wait to find an excuse to go back! | | Boudicca (205), London, England | | April 22, 2012 A popular modern bar with a great choice of world class beers on tap and in bottle.
The Port Street Beer House was extremely busy on the Friday and Saturday evenings when we visited, with standing room only, even in the upstairs room. We went back at opening time on the Sunday and got a table downstairs by one of the two large windows. It was soon very busy again, but the service was efficient.
It’s a modern, minimalistic bar, with the walls painted in a matt sage green and some pump clips and beer mats on the beams.
There are 15 keg taps, with beer served in pints, halves and thirds. The resident guest casks are from Dark Star, Thornbridge and Magic Rock. When we were there it was Welsh week (iechyd da!) and there was a meet the brewer event with Marble planned for the following week. I’ve noticed that outside London meet the brewer evenings tend to be ticketed. At Port Street the tickets were £8, including five samples and snacks. Not surprisingly, it was sold out.
The impressive bottle list had over 50 from the USA, 25 from Belgium, 12 from Germany, ten from Norway (all Nogne O), five from Denmark (all Mikkeller) and ten others including a couple each from Italy, de Molen and Budvar. Amongst the twenty or so bottles from the UK, BrewDog dominated but there were also high quality and interesting more local brews such as Marble, Hardknott, Red Willow and Summer Wine. They also had six ciders. Take away bottles were on offer at six for the price of five or six at full price with a free jute bag thrown in.
(Last visited 22 January 20012). | | RichardW (23), Carlisle, England | | April 15, 2012 Really blown away by this place. Modern, airy, very smart, well looked after. The number of fonts and pumps must be more than enough to please the most ardent beer enthusiast. Plenty more seating on the 1st floor, outdoor drinking at the rear. Waa quiet when I went in around 5pm Friday, but, within half an hour it was jumping. Service was quick, despite a busy bar. Yeah, some of the prices for the high ABV beers are a bit eye-watering, but you are getting some very high quality stuff. | sustainablealc (3), Manchester, England does not count - explanation | | March 22, 2012 Great bar, great selection, touch pricey, but I’m willing to pay. | Thebeertaster (4), , does not count - explanation | | March 14, 2012 What a cracking selection here. Went 2 weeks ago and off again this week, expensive, but some real rarities here. Lovely chap with knowledge behind the bar. Possibly lacks a little ambiance and is certainly pricey but I would say that for a small venue they pack a substantial punch when looking at the fine choice you have. | | Benjii (61), Edinburgh, Scotland | | January 22, 2012 A great multi-story bar with a great selections of cask and keg beers, including Duchesse de Bourgogne which was amazing. Also had a Mikkeller on keg. Extensive craft bottle list with heaps I wanted to try. Bottles are a bit on the pricey side but the range is excellent. Highly recommended. | CraftBeerNick (3), London Town, England does not count - explanation | | September 12, 2011 Great little Bar, good selection of Cask ales, normally small Craft beer breweries and some unusual beers. Even better selection of keg beers and a permanent Brewdog Font, have had Punk, 5am Saint, Hardcore and Hello My Name is Ingrid. Can be expensive for the unusual Keg beers in particular, especially the high ABV types, however they serve third pint glasses, should you wish to have a smaller taste. They also do regular Brewery tasting sessions from some of the UKs finest up and coming Craft beer breweries as well as others further afield. I stay in Manchester on business frequently and normally make this place a must! | | JorgeLee (19), , England | | September 12, 2011 [ Updated May 7, 2012 ] Amazed this place wasn’t already on here - fantastic newish Manchester beer bar. Lots on tap (maybe 4-5 British cask ales plus a fair few Belgian/US/other when i was last there) and fairly long bottle list with America featuring heavily for a beer bar in NW Manchester. Not sure about food - we were only drinking. A bit more salubrious (possibly less character?) than Bar Fringe or the Marble. Revisited May 212, the selection seems even better! |
