Café/bar/pub in the univsersity area. They have a lot of beer, but not all of it is very interesting. On my visits, there has usually not been much on the three or four handpumps they have, though the real ales I’ve tried (mainly from Phoenix) have been in good form. Decent selection of German and Belgian bottled beers. And I think the Phoenix Pilsner is exclusively brewed for this place. Efficient and friendly service. Can get quite lively during evenings, with a lot of students. Nice place, but slightly off the beaten pub track in Manchester.

Excellent relaxed bar/pub in the University/Metropolitan area. Good mix of clientèle - not dominated by the usual Student Grant types. Friendly bar staff but the small bar area can lead to congestion when it gets rammed on Fridays after work. Usually 6 real ales on offer with approximately 10 lagers (Budvar, Krombacher, etc plus the unique Phoenix Pilsner) also available. Decent range of bottled beers including Trapiste Rochefort 10 amongst others. Not the cheapest, but probably the best value in the area. Food available but I’ve not sampled it so can’t comment. Watch out for ghastly jazz band on, I think, Tuesdays.
