Essendon shop. I think the one at The Prince of Wales in Acland St has closed. It’s a black-painted suburban bottlo that turns out to have lots of good things - mostly newfangled - at sometimes surprisingly good prices if you buy a few beers. It’s a trek across town for me, but otherwise it’d be somewhere I’d often go. The guy on the counter had tried new things I was buying and had useful opinions. There’s something slightly puzzling about it, but the place as it is is good.

I get most of my beer from this joint as I live around the corner - and what a great local to have! The staff are all very knowledgable and are happy to talk beer for ages. The selection is very good and geared towards top-end beers. Prices are very reasonable, cheaper for most things than other premuim beer shops in Melbourne. The only downside is the shopping centre location, but this doesn’t detract much from what is otherwise a fantastic little shop!

This little shop is one one of those hidden gems you just have to stumble across. Not that it is hard to see, being in a shopping complex, but it’s just not the place you would expect to find such a well thought out collection of beer. The wine and cider range is definitely in the same league as well. The selection is a good size, about 150-200 specialty beers as well as the run of usual regulars. But the trump card is the fact it is always changing as limited and small batch beers come and go. If its available in Oz these guys can get it and are happy to help.
