This is a little gem right in my backyard in Middletown, CT. Tucked discretely in the North End business district, it is definitely not the first place that somebody new to the area would gravitate to for good beer. However, the owner John is an intelligent, down-to-earth kind of guy who has a knack for getting some really nice beers from the distributors.
Yet, I had written this place of as a wanna-be before a few days ago. Yes, they had a decent selection of belgians (Rochefort, Dupont, Chimay, Westmalle, Delirium, Unibroue, etc.), but it was all kind of stale, like no one had touched one of the bottles in years. I had seen that Ratebeer did not have an official listing of this place, and I was OK with that.
But not anymore. This place just refuses to fly under the radar, and a lot of credit has to be given to its owner, John. He has recently re-vamped Forest City’s beer selection to be truly top caliber. I was SHOCKED to find Struise, Mikkeller, and 3 Fonteine as imports, and a huge selection of Southern Tier, Great Divide, and Rogues for domestic crafts. In the span of two weeks, this place has moved into the upper echelon of beer retailers in the area. Huge props, Forest City. Keep up the good work! |
