72 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 artmcd8 (43) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | January 1, 2013 Rivertown makes a decent beer and the selection here is always rotating. The place smelled like old wet rags but the service was great. The bartenders are all very knowledgeable and friendly. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Beerman6686 (92) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | October 26, 2012 Somewhat dim and uninviting when you walk in, but at the same time quiet and relaxing. Service was good, but not great. They have probably 10-15 of there own beers on tap so decent selection and a few pleasant surpirses such as their pineapple ale. Food was good, and decently priced, decent portions as well. Overall, worth going to, but not if it means going way out of your way. | 62 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 Kollie (12) , | March 25, 2012 Trying but still feels pretty yinzer to me. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 20/20 nike (47) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | November 22, 2011 What a great place!! 15 micro beers on tap that are good tasting brews, and great food. I recommended the pizza. They roll their own pizza dough there. I talked with the manager, Joe, great knowledge of beer food etc...I just wished I lived closer; I would probably be there every night! | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 fredandboboflo (62) East Setauket, New York | November 13, 2011 Very wooden sports bar. Bartender may have been on Ritalin. Though they have a ton of beers on tap, many fall victim to the overly-similar-style problem. Quality is also an issue. I ordered the altbier first and ended up with the barley wine (actually an understandable mistake due to the naming system on the menu), but the beer was so far off from barley wine that I just thought it was a messed up altbier until things were cleared up later. I’d still say it was closer to altbier less the alcohol. Most other stuff I sampled also had some issues, either flawed or just boring. Though the altbier did turn out to be a winner when I finally got it. Brunch food was quite tasty, though the regular pub menu was just filled with greasy offerings that I wouldn’t much care to order. Not a dreadful place to stop, but nothing that would draw me back as a beer destination short of the ticks. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 LilBeerDoctor (208) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | November 13, 2011 A neat sports bar just outside of Pittsburgh. A bit unusual in that the parking lot is located across the street from the pub, and there’s no crosswalk. Inside, lots of TVs and Steelers memorabilia. There are quite a lot of taps with a wide variety of styles. I was able to sample the IPA, altbier, pilsener, barleywine, pumpkin spice, and porter. The beers were mostly average to slightly-above average. Their menu is typical pub fare plus they have pizzas - although I was there during brunch hours so I got an omelette which was very tasty. Overall, although their beer is nothing too special, it was still a fun stop. | 60 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 MrChopin (100) Baltimore, Maryland | November 8, 2011 Wood-riddled restaurant, bar is a sports bar, standard TVs and such. Extensive tap selection for brewpub. Pretty blah restaurant environment, families and table waits for parties of 3-4. Decent beer, nice selection, ok food. Worth a stop if in Monroeville, or better yet, if you are on I-76 and need a break, because it’s only 3 minutes away from the exit. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (561) Columbus, Ohio | September 12, 2011 (Visited 02/2011): Rivertowne Pourhouse (pun!) is located in northeastern Monroeville on Center Rd, not too far off 376 and relatively close to the airport. They have ample parking around the building and across the street.
The interior is laid out in different rooms with brewing equipment situated in the middle. The bar area offers a good number of seats, and there are high tables and restaurant tables elsewhere. The motif is not surprisingly Steelers- heavy, with wood and outdoorsy-type decor behind it all. There are boards listing available beers as well.
Rivertowne has a fairly extensive draught list and offers paddles to sample them. On my visit there were 16 unique beers, ranging from lighter fare like Uter Brau and Light Tackle to stronger beers like Slhoppy Monster IIPA. Other options include Dark Helmet Schwarzbier, B.A. Babockus and Uncle Tom’s Tumbling Pebble. On the whole the beers are average to above average.
Service on a weekday lunch was good. The place was pretty empty and the server was attentive and relatively knowledgeable about the beers.
Food at Rivertowne is solid. The menu leans toward seafood and they have a lot of subs/sandwiches too. Both my and my colleague’s lunches were enjoyable.
Overall this place is a decent spot to hit outside the Pittsburgh area. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 bth122 (14) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | September 5, 2011 Easy to find. Convenient from Turnpike and 376. Parking is across street. Inside is fairly big inside. Rustic looking inside (lots of wood). Food was good. Big food selection. Service was friendly and great. Lots of "pittsburgh" decorations. And finally beer selection is great. Lots of homebrews to try. I was very impressed by the quality or their beers. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | August 1, 2011 They really built this place for the craft beer drinker in mind. First there’s a seat at the bar which might be 3 feet from the men’s bathroom. Logistically this is awesome. The decor is nothing fancy but the beer is pretty solid. They had almost twenty different things on tap that range from meh! to pretty damn tasty. The food was fantastic. Fresh ingredients simply prepared and they have their menu available late. Plus they’re open until 2am even on a Sunday which is pretty awesome. The service was first rate as well. Plus they always seem to be adding new and different kinds of beer. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area. |
