| DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | October 7, 2011 The place is a house that someone converted into a bar/bottle shop. Those that called this place a dump are being charitable. It was not very clean. They have a pick-sixer section but the prices are not well marked. The prices, even by PA standards, weren’t particularly good being about 20-30% higher then what’s typical. They only had one tap that was working. They had some decent local and regional crafts but nothing to rare or unusual. There’s no reason to go here if you don’t have to. | | nike (36), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | April 25, 2011 [ Updated May 25, 2011 ] Not a bad place to find variety selection of beers. They have all (most) of the usual suspects (of American beers), but also a nice variety of micros and imports. When you first walk in, there is a cooler immediately to your left with a good selection of the Samuel Adams beers. The prices were decent for a six pack shop. The beers in the coolers were no more expensive than the beer on the shelves. The manager was excellent to talk with; he has a great knowledge of beer, and is willing to order anything you want (if he can get it in PA). Well worth the visit. | tgenenbacher (2), Lenexa, Kansas does not count - explanation | | November 26, 2010 don’t waste your time. this place is a dump that is about two days away from going out of business. the selection sucks, the beer is way overpriced. the coolers lights are all burnt out so you can’t even see what they have. hell, they don’t even have a phone anymore. total waste of time! | | Beerman6686 (24), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | November 1, 2010 Bottleshop upstairs from the trivia Pub. Darkly lit place, very cluttered, dusty and unorganized. Selection is average with lots of empty shelf space. The good side of this place is that prices are pretty cheap comparatively to other bottles shops around Pittsburgh. They also have 6 wall taps that they fill growlers for which usually have 1-2 good offerings for no more than $12 for a fill up. | | yinzerbeernut (15), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | September 25, 2009 As time goes on I am becoming more disappointed with this location. The have a quality selection of Micros/Belgium but it seems that the price has went up over the past 2 years. The atmosphere is still the same, dark, dirty, and unorganized. With the extra coin they should be bringing in let’s get a makeover. | | KornDogg (25), Lancaster, Pennsylvania | | October 5, 2008 The Beer Store was my fav place to pick up a sixer when I lived in pittsburgh... lacking in selection compared to smokin joes or 3 sons, but cheaper and they fill growlers... some goodies stashed behind the register, make sure to ask, I got a Dogfish World Wide Stout for $10, Sharp Edge wanted $18... worth the stop... | | illinismitty (275), Nashville, Tennessee | | February 12, 2008 Not many places for beer out by the Airport. This is your typical hole in the wall beer store. Not very clean and not very organized (at least the craft beer). Prices are not labeled on many beers. The guy working the counter did not even acknowledge my presence. Oh well. Even though the craft beer was not organized, it is not that hard to get a look at everything that is available. The have a cooler full of beers in which you can mix a $10 six. That is a very good price for PA. They have a good selection of locals and regionals, but don’t expect to find any rarities. I don’t see myself going back unless I am staying in the area | | MrBunn (67), Western, Pennsylvania | | October 25, 2007 So I had fairly big hopes riding on this one, that finally I would find that holy grail of a bottle shop in PA that had good selection, reasonable prices, knowledgeable staff, etc. I only went in the bottle shop portion of the store, so I can’t speak for the Trivia Lounge, but the bottle shop is quite a trip. There seems to be a complete lack of organization, clarity in pricing, selection of product, etc. They have lots of good beer, but the display is insanely archaic... little clusters of bottles (that may or may not be of the same type). If you find a six pack of something that you like, you can split it, but there may be a pile of individual bottles of the same just around the corner... or in one of the coolers. I only saw two indicators of price anywhere. The guy at the counter was nice enough, but when asked about whether brand x beer was worth anything, I got the answer Yeah. The pricing was wierd... individual 12 oz bottles start at $2 and the highest I saw was $5.50 (put it back on the shelf while being rang out). Bomber prices were reasonable for a bottle shop in PA, but not very good compared to the free world out there. If you can’t come up with a better place to go, try Ohio... it’s not that far and what you pay for gas you’ll more than make up for in the price of the beer. | | LinusStick (43), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | February 3, 2007 Not a bad place for a college beer store. They had a little belgian selection and some stuff I wasn’t expecting. The organization could be better. There are coolers all over the place and hidden in corners. Some of the bottles were knocked over on the displays and some of the coolers were dirty and empty. There do have great prices though. I would return here since I live in Moon. | | cheapdark (128), Quiptown & Central Valley, Pennsylvania | | October 13, 2006 [ Updated October 25, 2008 ] I really like this place, as a new beer taster for quality, the manager is very friendly. He tolerates well all the questions that uninformed rookies can ask. He is also into trading if you got something he don’t have. Select a variety six pack of anything for $10. He also has taps for anybody to fill growlers. Right down stairs is the trivia pub and their wings are good. Trivia pub is owned by the same people. |
