| Marko (169), Split, Croatia | | April 9, 2012 Packed place, didn’t intend to go there first but somehow we ended up there. The interior seemed quite nice but we ended up outside. Service... I ask if they have any seasonal beers, the guy almost starts patronizing us, brings the English menu and starts explaining the regular lineup. Gee, thanks. It was a yes or no question. Got the (quite nice) beers relatively fast considering the crowd, and we were constantly asked something, if we want some pretzels, if we will drink more. Ok. In the end it seems that the guy either wanted to screw us over or he thought we’ll leave him a tip larger than the bill. I mean what the hell? Still, let’s just call this a misunderstanding and I won’t lower the service rating. Eh, I’d go there again anyway. They are one of the only ones fair enough to offer both a small and a big beer (and theirs are pretty good), the place’s great on the inside too. | | SamGamgee (182), down the whirlpool, California | | December 19, 2011 The Andechs beers are good, but damn is this the hipster hangout of beer places or what? Always packed and trendy. I think I walked past after seeing how packed it was at least twice as many times as I actually got a beer while in Munich. Sometimes you just feel like a doppelbock though. | | Cuso (82), Bratislava, Slovak Republic | | November 3, 2011 Nice place for have some Andechser beers. Service was friendly and quick. Recommended place. | | deanso (103), the Hague, Netherlands | | September 4, 2011 Nice atmosphere. Fairly good service. Nice place to try the Andechs beer. Very close to the main square off a side street | | MartinT (469), Montreal, Quebec | | August 12, 2011 Beautiful frescoed interior; small and open. The terrace can get crowded however as it overlooks the Dom and is thus very popular. The beers here are stunning, from the refined Helles to their complex Doppelbock. A must stop when in Munich, no doubt. | | rickgordon (38), Göteborg, Sweden | | January 3, 2011 Cosy little place. Good service. Ultra fresh beer. Sepp Krätz is everywhere and nowhere ;-) | hrabren (9), Zagreb, Croatia does not count - explanation | | December 25, 2010 Being smaller than other "main" bars in Munich, we couldn’t find a place to sit inside on a December weeknight, so we took a table outside. The staff wasn’t exactly quick, but they were polite. Beer selection is very good, we tried their Doppelbock Dunkel and it was poured in a proper glass on the right temperature. Shame it got to cold, since we were sitting outside. | | Drink4Satan (28), Washington, Washington DC | | December 8, 2010 This is my favorite brewery restaurant in Munich, and I’ve pretty much been to all of them. All the beers are outstanding and the food is perfectly prepared and is probably the best German fare I’ve ever head. The seasonal offerings I tried were all outstanding. The service is quick and friendlier than your average German restaurant. The waiters and waitresses have always been able to help me select the what they felt were the most kick-ass dishes on the menu. I gotta say, I’ve agreed with them! I just keep going back.
The place is always packed, as it’s probably the smallest Brauhaus in Munich, at least in Marienplatz. It’s even smaller than the Ayinger restaurant across from that awful tourist trap, Hofbrau Haus. The cavernous basement is cozy and old-feeling.
Can’t say much about the selection. I mean, it is Germany. Selection is pretty much non-existent in this country. It’s a concept the Germans don’t quite grasp. A German once said to somebody I know, when he was talking about wanting to try different beers from all over Europe, "why do that? They don’t make a good beer where you come from?"
Anyways, go here when in town, but not first. You’ll be slightly disappointed with every other place you visit next. And don’t let the crowd on the deck deter you. They’re just there to what the football game. | | Bierkrug (214), Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), Germany | | December 3, 2010 Got here on a crowded Friday night. A nice place and food was the normal Munich fare. Service was a bit slow but the crowd was huge. Beers are great as all know. A nice stop and if you cannot get to the mountian then come here. | | adnielsen (277), Fort Collins, Colorado | | October 22, 2010 If you can’t make it out to Andechs, you should definitely hit up this place. The Doppelbock is unbelievable. Even Bill Clinton came to this place! |
