| DanielBrown (191), Birmingham (via Leicester), England | | May 6, 2012 Traditional and massive bierkeller. We (a party of 11 blokes) sampled the shared platter buffet affair, which was supremely good value and contained many meaty, savoury items. Lowenbrau beer is excellent, so you can’t go far wrong here. | | dutchbeerpages (36), Wilnis, Netherlands | | February 21, 2012 Great castle looking building with multiple rooms. Selection is slightly better than in other places. You can even curle outside. Food was excellent too. | | SamGamgee (182), down the whirlpool, California | | December 19, 2011 Big open place on the north side. I seriously think my group was the only one there but it was a rainy November (2010) afternoon and not many were out in general. We had time for one beer and I was excited to see a dunkelweizen on the menu. Then, to my horror, I was brought a Franziskaner dunkel. Forgot that Löwenbräu is owned by spaten-franziskaner. Douh! So a pretty mundane place. Never did get around to trying Triumphator while in town either. Too much other, probably better beer to be had. I wouldn’t bother trying to get here again. | | ALLOVATE (84), Butler, WA, Australia | | November 26, 2011 Loved this place and can’t remember why. Our bierwench stuffed up our order on numerous visits (yeah, same lady, again, damn!) and always went off in a huff. The female toilet attendant was all too keen to simply sit inside the men’s and perv, and one half of the interior was dedicated to post-nouveau ’clublife’ most weekends. Oh, and the beer is Löwenbräu - the simpler, more widely accepted of the Munich ’6’. Still, I love it for the fact with all that it still retains its pride as a grand bierhall, a fantastic, spacious and serene biergarten with great food available and German efficiency showing in their speedy delivery. And the retention of minor historical moments still bleed from the very walls of this place. A grand bierhall, even if our waiter kept stuffing with my Dunkel! | | villevav (57), , Finland | | June 9, 2011 One of the largest brewpubs/restaurants in Munich. Unfortunately the brews are worst of the large breweries in Munich. | | Bodisson (11), , Croatia | | January 20, 2011 Triumphator! Schweinhacken! Weisswurst! Octoberfest! What more do you need to visit this marvelous beergarten? And yeah, we reserved table six months in advance... | | TEJA (36), Stockholm, Sweden | | December 6, 2010 The Lövenbräukeller is a place I defenatly will go the next time I’m in Munich. The food was exellent and they had their own beerselection and also some from the Franziskanner brewery. We (my wife and daughter) were lucky and got a table directly but just after us a party of asians had to wait for 30 min for the next trable. The waitress was fast and did speak a litle English and the food meny was also translated to English and that made it easy to understand what food and beer thay had. | | Bierkrug (214), Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), Germany | | December 5, 2010 My last stop on the Great Munich Beer Raid 2010. I would not make it the first choice when going to Munich but it is nice to get away from the crowds and it is near the Train Station. Service was some of the best at the big beer halls. Food was again local fare and is quick if needed for a staop to the train station. Beers were the Lowenbrau and Fanskaner types. A nice roomy place that if placed anywhere else in the world would have much higher ratings, but here it is just another beer hall. | | ogivlado (242), Zagreb, Croatia | | August 27, 2008 Looks like medieval castle with huge beer hall and big biergarten outside. I was there around 5 p.m. so the beer hall was empty and all the people were outside. Quite expensive place, beers approximately 4-5€, food was nothing special. I ordered Würstlteller (two sausages with mashed potatoes and parmesan cheese) and paid 12.50€. | portermax55 (7), Canterbury, Connecticut does not count - explanation | | October 11, 2007 Stopped in here during Oktoberfest for a bite to eat and few beers. It’s a huge beer hall, but we chose to sit in the rather large biergarten outside. The service was outstanding. Our server was nice enough to translate the menu into english and made us feel very welcome despite all the German business-people eating lunch. The beer selection was that of a Munich brewery. I enjoyed both their Original Helle and the Triumphator, a doppelbock. I suggest the 1 liter size for both of these :) Definatly worth the walk from the train station |
