| jbrana (27), NASHVILLE, Tennessee | | February 29, 2012 Frugal MacDougal has the best prices in town by far. They have one of the biggest selections in town, but because it is so big and well priced, things usually fly off the shelf faster than at most places... so sometimes you can’t find what you’re looking for if you don’t show up quick enough. They have a great selection of brews both on the beer side and the liquor side (high gravity beers). They also fill growlers (6 taps) at a very reasonable price (most fills are 7.99). Would highly recommend this place. | | IndyBeerSnob (13), Nashville, Tennessee | | January 30, 2012 Where I go for my 6 and 12 packs. Their selection is okay.. I wish they had more of their beer chilled. It seems like they have so many beers that are warm on display.. big no no for me. Still though since I can walk here, I like it. The dudes working on the beer side are always chill and knowledgeable. | | Rustyham (84), Nashville, Tennessee | | July 18, 2010 [ Updated January 22, 2012 ] the low ABV side is about half as large as Midtown, but it does have a lot less light coming in. The singles section is small, about the same size as at Barleycorn, but they only charge $9.99 for the 6-pack while midtown charges per bottle. On the high ABV side, the selection wasn’t bad, probably larger than Midtown, and had some great prices- Sublimely Self-Rightoues Ale was on special for $6.49 a bomber | | lithy (156), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | June 7, 2010 Seems about the same as Midtown. A small high gravity selection and a pretty sizable under 6% side. Under six has few singles available while over six was mostly singles. Close to the new Yazoo digs. | | phaleslu (241), Saint Louis, Missouri | | April 12, 2010 Big beer and liquor store on the edge of downtown and two blocks from the new Yazoo brewery. Because of some insane Tennessee state liquor law, this place has separate entrances, exits, and registers for low-ABV (’normal’) beer, and higher-ABV beer, and wine and liquor. So I had to buy Yazoo Rye Saison on the beer side and Yazoo SUE on the liquor side in two separate transactions. Maddening. The bottle selection is pretty good, but the setup makes browsing frustrating. A lot of the good Southern beers are not broken down into singles, and I didn’t feel like buying 6-packs of everything I wanted to try. The big bottles are mostly things I can find at other good beer stores, with a few exceptions. They don’t sell on Sundays, so I had to carve out some time in the middle of the weekend instead of on my way out of town. The location and good beers make it worth a visit, but I’d like to see some changes in the way the place is organized and in the state laws (well, since the second one will be tougher, at least break down more 6-packs for singles). | | Gustav1996 (24), Birmingham, Alabama | | February 26, 2010 [ Updated April 4, 2010 ] Not that bad... good selection. Prices are average. I would go again if back in Nashville. | | BEER4MEPLEASE (10), | | November 15, 2009 FOR ALL THE TALK ABOUT THIS STORE, I WAS PLANNING ON SOMETHING MORE. ITS OLD AND OUTDATED. THE BEER SELECTION WAS OK BUT NOT ORGANIZED IN A COSTOMER FRIENDLY WAY. I WENT SOMEWHERE ELSE! | BeerBaby (9), , Florida does not count - explanation | | September 24, 2009 Big place. Liked the fact that the beers and liquors are right next door. Good thing in Tennessee and keeps you from running all over. Average prices. Most of the same beers your find anywhere. Didn’t find the kind I was wanting, a Kindl Berliner Weisse. I will keep on looking. | | padgemw (11), | | July 24, 2009 I’ve been shopping at Frugal’s for years, when they were hands down the best liquor store in Nasvhille. While they do have decent competition these days, they are still my preferred store. In Tennessee, understand that beer is categorized by strength, so if you walk in the beer side and don’t find certain bottles, then walk over to the liquor/wine side, where the higher than 6% bottles are kept. | | JonnyC22 (10), Huntsville, Alabama | | March 10, 2009 This is the place to go if you’re living in Nashville or just cruising through. Warehouse-sized place with over 100 different types of beer, easily. Check out their website. |
