| Maduro54 (11), , | | December 26, 2011 Probably best in East Coast for basic beer to rare collections. Great value. $10 6pack match including tax can’t be beat. | | nike (36), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | November 28, 2011 OK, I had to see this place. I haven’t been here since the old 6 and save. Small parking lot, but there is parking on the street and in a vacant lot next door. Excellent selection of beers, best prices that I have found thus far in PA. 20 rotating beers on tap. Dave the owner wasn’t there when I stopped by, so, I am going to have to make another trip. Worth the visit. I was talking to a customer there who mentioned about weekly Saturday tastings they do on the hard to find beers and hard to get beers in PA. Service was decent, atmosphere is drinking in someone’s basement, which I enjoyed. No smoking inside, and well light place. | | Busko (10), Chicago, Illinois | | August 27, 2011 Stopped here last week for some beers on the way to Seven Springs for a friend’s bachelor party. Scored some rarities like 2010 Founders Nemesis, Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree IPA, and was sad they had the aged sours from Russian River but no Blind Pig or Pliney. Most beers were overpriced but not too bad. A few of the IPAs I bought were on the shelf for too long and were undrinkable, could’ve got more Nemesis if I only knew. Owner was super cool and they have a bar in the back with 30 beers on tap, some pretty good ones for the area. All in all this place is a score and I wish I lived closer cause the PA mountains are more relaxing than Chicago. | | BigBeer45 (14), Michigan | | June 16, 2011 [ Updated August 21, 2011 ] I stopped in here to check out the rarities, they had Russian River but it was expensive, when I saw the prices, I was in shock... I decided not buy any Russian River and spend my money on other rare beers I cannot get in my state. This store has a lot to choose from and it took a few minutes to look the shelves over, the guy behind the counter was helpful and directed me to the beers I was looking for, the prices at this place are higher than what Vintage Estate charges for the same beers but this place has some beers I do not see at VE and I will stop in again to check out other rarities and maybe buy one bottle of RR to see if it is worth it :) | | FROTHINGSLOSH (48), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania | | April 13, 2011 Atmosphere is virtually non existent as is the food menu. Best beer selection I have ever seen and very good prices overall. Service is awful. A great place to fill a mix 6 or find some rare large bottles but no other reason to go. | | LinusStick (43), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | February 15, 2011 All I can say is WOW! I thought Vintage Estate was great, but this place his it beat hands down. Not for the amount of beers, but the selection. They have stuff you can’t get anywhere else in PA or OH (you go see for yourself) and the bar manager was fantastic. When I was there we were the only ones in there and this guy actually knows his stuff. Too often you go to places like this and the employees have little to no knowledge of what they are selling. He pointed out all the rarities and most sought after stuff to me and engaged in some beer talk. Prices rival our OH neighbors. Will be a weekly visit | | cheapdark (128), Quiptown & Central Valley, Pennsylvania | | January 23, 2011 [ Updated March 31, 2012 ] This place is the bom! No, I’m not kidden. I thought Vintage Estates was cool but this place meets it and is a tad cooler on the prices, no lie! Even in good old tyrant LCB controlled PA! I don’t know how he does it but there were so many beers. Six pack mixed for $10 and bunches of cool beers for a $1! Also, I was pleased to see many good bombers for $4 each. Oh yea, the tap selection is phenominal also! I’m going 100% on this place. My only prob is that it’s an hour drive to get there. However, I’m splitting my vintage estage time with this one because they are both an hour away. The help was very knowedgable and what he didn’t know he didn’t try to BS the BSer! I liked that. They even had some custon beers that were not on the market on tap from a combined belgdian effort! One of kind wew! | RJBeer (1), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | January 14, 2011 An excellent beer store/ bottle shop/ bar. The sit down bar is in the back of the building, and doesn’t have a lot of room. The fact that little if any money is spent on decorating actually increases the ambiance for a real beerfan because it keeps the emphasis on the brews.
Staff are all knowledgeable as are the regulars. On my second visit, people greeted me by name. Just about anyone in the place is willing to discuss beer.
Prices are reasonable for the huge bottle selection, and there are always specials on select growlerfills. | stunman (2), does not count - explanation | | September 24, 2010 It was only several years ago when the notion of sampling dozens of craft brews would mean a 30 to 90 minute trip to a suburban or outskirts of Pittsburgh store. Wow have things changed. I have traveled to America’s top-rated beer store, Vintage Estate in Ohio and I’ve made frequent trips to House of a 1000 Beers (formerly Six and Save), and let me tell you hands down, I feel that House of 1000 Beers has them beat for 1) highly sought after beers, particularly the highest rated Belgiums and 2) tap beers. This place is awesome in this sense. They may not have the location, ambiance, and food of some other places, but when it comes to beer and strictly beer, this place is one of the best in the Pittsburgh area and rivals Vintage Estate. Keep up the good work guys, and keep the highly rated beers coming! If it’s a B+ or higher, not to mention in the A to A+ range, we want it. | | bth122 (11), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | September 16, 2010 Fantastic selection, Good prices, single bottles mix n match. Also has a nice selection of draft beers on tap. Good choice of Belgiums. Offers Growlers to go. Not much of an atmosphere. Just great beer selection at great prices. |
