| DeadGirl (32), West Palm Beach, Florida | | November 21, 2009 A diamond in the rough of LES, maybe not so rough, but you definitely have to search to find the "garage". Beer bottles stack up along the walls (and props for not having to buy the entire 6 pack!) organized by domestic and imported. And um, they have West Coast beers! I’ve been reading past ratings and somebody found Russian River and Lost Abbey here. That’s just not fair. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable (they literally know where everything is). Ambiance, not so much, but the excitement of finding rare brews is overwhelming. Overall: Incredible selection. Better than Whole Foods around the corner. Return: Yes. | ld50 (1), New York does not count - explanation | | November 8, 2009 This place is essentially a warehouse, so there is no ambiance to speak of. But the people who work there are very helpful and down to earth, and the selection is excellent. Not to mention that you can buy single bottles. Plus they have 5 taps (for growlers only), periodic tastings, and an email list for events and what’s new on tap. | | Radek Kliber (26), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario | | June 25, 2009 Close to China Town set up in old Mechanic Shop/Garage. Quiet good selection of beers , best in NY that I found yet many other cities offer much bigger selection. Service was very helpfull and friendly. | | Leighton (19), New York, New York | | June 23, 2009 The best beer store I have found yet in the United States. The selection was unbelievable. All styles available and organized neatly and logically. Prices were decent. They have a few live taps so you can fill up growlers. The store is conveniently located, too. Just hop off the subway at Spring Street and walk a few blocks East. I can’t wait to go back to this place. | | Beerapprentice (11), Hopatcong, New Jersey | | May 29, 2009 Heard about this place from Adrian. Great beer selection (so I hear). I’m a beer apprentice, not quite sure what good is on my own yet. Wall to wall beer from all over. Some good stuff. Picked up my new fav (a Rochefort 10) from them as well as a few other goodies. Good prices. Only a few complaints. They should have baskets to place your beer in while you shop and they should organise the beer better. | | DerWeg (16), Toronto, Ontario | | May 16, 2009 Outstanding "Beer Garage" -- Lower East Side style.... This is a small DARK warehouse with an impressive collection of high-end beer for sale. Storage is a little dark but that’s good for beer. It’s a dingy little euro-style bare basics storehouse with a plexi-window booth out front, no doubt highly secure. They don’t have shopping baskets or other cheerful ’store experience’ amenities - you are here to dig for treasure, and will save perhaps 50 cents to nearly a few bucks on some beers. So grab a carton, and start looking around the tall, dazzling racks of beer. I truly think if they charge some beers in the 8-10 dollar range, then they HAD to charge in that range to sell it - many notable price breaks are given on other excellent beers they were able to sell cheaper. I would recc stop by the WF up the corner at Houston, make some notes and come back here to shop first. Whole foods does have some different items, but you will find many of them here and for less geld. | | ManvsCity (17), Redmond, Washington | | April 15, 2009 Great rotating four local beer selection for growlers. The place is not much for ambience, being a warehouse with a 10’x10’ area for shelf space, and plexiglass between customer and cashier. But the prices and occasional rarities keep me coming back. Many bottles here are at least a dollar less than the nearby Whole Foods. Besides regional beers, they have many West Coast favorites, a full shelf plus part of another of Belgians, another shelf of other countries, and they have some excellent ciders from Normandy. About half the shelf stock is six-packs. | | TheEpeeist (10), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania | | January 28, 2009 I’ve been going to this place for almost 3 years now. They used to have a huge variety but lately seems diminished; still a solid selection. I’m guessing that any new rare beers get grabbed up quickly by the locals so timing is key. You’re usually on your own when it comes to finding stuff. I always stop by early Saturday and the only staff on the floor just go back and forth moving cases to the street for deliveries. Appears as if they are starting to improve customer service with the new growler fills. A huge bonus they offer 32 oz swing-tops. It seems like they struggle to get new stuff on the shelf. 75% of the floor space is dedicated to unloaded cases. I wandered in the back area once and found a huge variety of cases stacked without any apparent order. Tough to find anything that might not be on the shelves yet. Prices maybe the best i’ve come across keep me coming back but i no longer make the huge buys and sometimes nothing new. Good compliment to nearby Whole Foods. | | KnutAlbert (150), Oslo, Norway | | October 8, 2008 It’s not the coziest of places, it is, after all, a warehouse. But they let you mix the sixpacks as you please. If you inted to fill a suitcase, they have a good range of canned craft beer.
A splendid range of imports as well as lots of US beers in bottles great and small. The only regret is that you’re not able to visit, say, once a month. One of the best beer shops on the planet! |
