78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 mrmartin (34) Oakland, California | April 13, 2013 20 Taps of micros and imports, at least half were regional microbrews. Staff and patrons were very friendly. There were also 10 fridges of beers for take away.
Reminded me a lot of City Beer in SF. Well done Top Hops! | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 ben4321 (163) Hoboken, New Jersey | March 14, 2013 I stopped in here for a quick look around the other day and I will definitely be back. They had a solid draft list available for growler fills, which is great if you live near by. They also served them on tap, which is great for everyone. Finally, they had a very nice bottle selection which you could purchase or drink in the store for a marginal fee. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 theisti (352) Leawood, Kansas | February 1, 2013 Visited mid-afternoon on a Tuesday. Only a couple of us were in the long narrow shop. The set up is a 15 seat bar up front, with coolers lining the back walls. Nice selection both on draft, as well as in the coolers. I loved the draft list, chock full of information on each beer, as well as the date the beer was tapped as well as the list time the lines were cleaned. I have never seen information presented this clearly before, and I love it. The service was really friendly and engaging, great crusty pretzels on the bar for snacks. Great place, I am always a sucker for these bar / bottle shop places. | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 brystmar (13) Brooklyn, New York | January 19, 2013 Top Hops is now my go-to spot in NYC for beer. Ted and his bartending staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and just as excited about beer as most of us in the community.
They do things the right way at Top Hops. All bottles are kept away from direct sunlight in a temperature-controlled environment, and the tap lines are cleaned regularly. They even display when each line was last cleaned on the front chalkboard; all bars should be required to do this.
Selection is excellent, both in regards to draft and bottles. TH seems to get all the new special releases and, even more impressively, sells them in a responsible manner. Low bottle limits per customer ensures more people get to try them. And reasonable pricing to boot.
Top Hops has earned my business and remains my top recommendation as both a bar & bottle shop. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 stammmta (17) New York | December 22, 2012 Been here a few times before but the tweet about Stone's "enjoy by" got me back again.
Cool place that's kind of a bug walk-in cooler. 20 odd taps out front with a really good selection / variety. Beer coolers in the back arranged by region. Really nice selection. $3 opening fee on the stuff in the back which is pretty reasonably priced.
Knowledgable / friendly staff. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the city. Must see if you're in the area. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 vodo (69) São Paulo, Brazil | July 15, 2012 It’s almost a PUB , with a long counter, with many taps serving pints. the botlle seleciton is nice, the prices are a little high. the personel is very helpful and know a lot about beer. good place to visit when in NYC. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 jredmond (161) Manhattan, New York | June 10, 2012 Stopped in here for the first time last night. As you enter the glass door entrance you’re greeted by home brewing materials and a random assortment of otter beer displays. The draft list of about 20 beers is located on a clean chalk board behind the bar. Really cool idea to include the date each keg was tapped and when each tapline was cleaned. Suggests a conscious upkeep and a desire to maintain a high level of quality brews. In the back of the bar is a large open space with beer fridges on both sides which apparently hold over 700 different bottles. Solid selection, nothing crazy. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Dfonorow (41) Chicago, Illinois | May 27, 2012 Small bottle shop/bar located near the lower East side. They have about 20 taps of rotating beer and tons of bottles that you can take home or drink at the bar. The staff is wonderful and goes out of their way to help you. You won’t find anything too rare here but plenty of local offerings at decent prices. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 Slipstream (82) | May 8, 2012 A nice shop in ol’ Loisaida that specializes in good brews. It seems to bring in some after-work Wall Streeters. The selection, although good-sized, was a little unexciting. But if you look around a little, you will probably find some things you want here - I did. The staff is friendly and into craft beer, and there are some snacks available. The attractive furnishings include a chalkboard with the brews listed on it. I could see myself rerating this place upwards after another visit or two. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Jow (93) New York | February 15, 2012 New place still kinda setting up. I believe this is only bottle shopw in the city where you can drink both drafts and bottles at store. cool ambiance, friendly staff, and decent selection and prices. 20 taps for drafts and growlers and fridges full of beer to purchase. reminds me of my PA days where you had to go to bar to get sixer or singles. The coasters have a notes ection on back for beer nerds rating purposes. a welcome addition to city |
