Bar and bottle and shop in one. Ambiance is simple decor, light music in the background beer lining all the walls until you get to the back where the fridges are placed. Only small minus may be the metal stools, that can get cold on the bottom after a while.
Bottle selection is 800 bottles plus with a selection of American and import. Sold in packs but also singles. A very light mark up for most bottles (less than a dollar).
About 20 drafts or so with a very good selection for hop heads. They had a tap of Hill Farmstead while I was there. Also allow you to open bottles on premises. Light bar snacks such as pretzels and olives are also on the menu.
Staff were friendly. One of the members had a can from Other Half Brewery (they do not distribute) and was kind enough to share the can.
Overall, great place to stop by if you’re in the neighborhood looking for a good beer.
Visited May 2016. Very narrow width, but long front to back. Bar is on the left with around 20 beers or so on tap. Good variety of locals and regional brews. They do serve flights. Bottles are in coolers on both the left and right walls past the bar, with a wide range of stuff, both domestic and international, but no whales. In between the coolers are a few additional small tables to sit at. Low ceilings in the cooler area, so if you’re claustrophobic, this may not be the best place for you. Can drink beer from the coolers on site for an additional charge (~$2) or take home with you. Nice stop.
Nice combination of a bar and a beer shop. Small bararea as you enter, tap list was really cool. Further inside you can stroll around and look for beers to buy from well filled fridges. Good bottle selection but maybe I was hoping for more rare or local stuff. Definately worth a visit though.
Visited May 2015. I had a drink at the bar, where the tap selection was solid without offering anything hugely unusual, but you are also able to choose a bottle from the shop and pay a mark-up. Service was efficient and the locals friendly. Very good.
We swung past Top Hops after visiting Fool’s Gold for a couple of malt beverages. It is a bar / beer shop combo of a place. On out visit they had about 15 beers on tap in the bar area largely from the bigger regional “craft-style” breweries – Stone, Goose Island, Lagunitas etc. Selection was alright, but nothing exciting enough for me to have something on tap. The bottle shop area is pretty much all in fridges and is composed of some 700 bottles. The bottled selection was very good with a good diversity of American and Worldwide beers. I picked up a variety of stuff including some Maine and Vermont goodness. Can’t say much about service as the guy didn’t really say anything to me! A solid beer shop all in all.
I know for a fact I rated this one before... Why do ratings get deleted all the time???? Visited in 2013. Had a tasting flight and a pint of the Oude Tart on draught. Was an awesome experience back then. Bartender was very unfriendly though. This time, the draught list was really mediocre, but the bartender was friendly, and the stuff they had in the fridges was more then enough to chose from.
Recommended for shopping in NYC.
