| theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | August 23, 2011 Of the three NYC WF I have been to, this certainly has the smallest selection, and the smallest focus on beer. As mentioned, the beer is spread in two different areas of the store, and in each place what is available is craft, local, and not particularly unique. Overall, nice Whole Foods, convenient to a lot of NYC hotels, and worth a visit only if you do not have time to hit WF Bowery or even Union Square. | | JoeMurphy (10), Ohio | | June 4, 2009 It’s a supermarket with an interesting but kind of random selection of beers. 4- and 6-packs are in the beverage area, and the bigger bottles are over by the cheeses, which seems odd. Small and crowded by Whole Foods standards (but hey, you’re in NYC, if you wanted the ’burbs experience, you’d be there...) | | Slipstream (59), | | January 23, 2008 [ Updated August 8, 2008 ] This is a natural foods supermarket - very busy, with long lines. The beer section is very good - some selections can disappear quickly, but interesting new ones appear regularly. I have a long way to go before I have tried everything this place has to offer. | | slimchill (82), Austin, Texas | | September 24, 2007 [ Updated September 15, 2008 ] Been to three of the NY WFM’s, and all were impressive in appearance and selection. Always helpful staff. | | BREWMUSKCLES (74), New Jersey | | August 11, 2007 an upscale supermarket that is - full of b/s-. the beer guy Aaron is an ok kid. they have a good selection of beers and they don’t overcharge too much -considering you are in manhattan. A is a beer advo guy but we shouldn’t hold that against him. place is clean and clientele are nice upscale working sheep types - oh well new york ain’t the same now that we licked common crime! | craige (3), Hoboken, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | November 28, 2006 The best part about going beer shopping at the Chelsea Whole Foods is that the guy who stocks the beer is very knowledgable about the product and is happy to help with recommendations or opinions. I can always find a beer I haven’t tried or at least can’t remember what it tastes like at this Whole Foods since the selection does change pretty frequently. I can’t speak as much for the other locations, but I do know the one at Union Square has a good selection as well, although I’ve only bought beer there once. I also like that a fair number of small bottles are available to be purchased singly. | | JoeMcPhee (398), Toronto, ON, Ontario | | November 26, 2006 The best supermarket selection in NYC. About 150 bottles, Belgians, local micros and national micros. Captain Lawrence, Cantillon, Dupont, Oskar Blues, Chimay, Blue Point etc. The killer cheese counter here makes this place one stop shopping. | | austinpowers (152), New York, New York | | May 26, 2006 [ Updated October 30, 2007 ] Lots of turnover and an upscale demographic guarantee that you’ll get fresh, fairly exotic beer like Hobgoblin and Dupont Reserve cider. In fact, there are, as of 3/07, four NYC Whole Foods locations:br
1. 7th Ave. & 24thbr
2. Union Square Southbr
3. Time Warner Center (southwest corner of Central Park)br
4. Bowery @ Houston St. |
