| craftbeerdesign (92), Alpharetta, Georgia | | April 28, 2011 A very large Whole Foods with a decent beer selection. If you want the Whole Foods in NYC head to Bowery. This location has about 4 taps for growler fills (32 and 64 oz). It took a little bit to find them b/c they are over in the prepared food section. Getting someone to help w/ the growlers took awhile and then they were out of what I wanted. Picked up some Pretty Things bottles instead. | | Chapel (34), Levittown, New York | | August 18, 2010 Not quite as good as the Bowery, but if you are on the Upper West you could do a lot worse (bodegas and Associated). Staff is pretty knowledgeable of beer and it has 5 taps for growler fills. Unfortunately the beer selection is split into two parts: a refrigerated section upstairs near the growler fill station and a room temp section downstairs. The upside of this is that the cheese section is also nearby and it is virtually impossible to miss them. Also, unlike the Bowery the beer is not kept in the sun... always a plus.
There is an attached wine shop with a modest selection. Also a wide variety of coffee at the coffee bar and a seating are for eating premade food (such as sushi or brick oven pizza). Although, you are not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages in the store, so no use discussing food pairings. | | kopher (11), New York | | June 29, 2010 Best place on UWS for beer. Decent prices and a very nice selection. There are two beer areas, one with taps and tamer stuff, and more interesting imports and crafts downstairs. Taps are not usually anything special, but there are other treasures to be found. Also right next to cheese area, and cheese/beer people can help you make some matches. |
