Small local bar on the edge of the Ironbound district in Newark. A stone’s throw from where I work, this place has been around for years and has good pub food. Large bottle list, and a handful of taps with good beer but, unfortunately, lines that are not cleaned very often. I enjoy the spot but generally stick to the bottles or the tap IPAs because I’ve had too many sour line beers here. Still worth a quick stop if you’re at Newark Penn.

My local neighborhood joint. And for Newark, a diamond in the rough. Probably around 200 bottle available, mostly domestic craft beers and world lagers, nothing ridiculous. They do have a rotating seasonal selection and occasionally bring in stuff I’ve never head. 10 draft lines, including Smuttynose IPA. Genuine neighborhood bar atmosphere, lots of regulars. Service is awesome. Great bartenders who are friendly and not afraid to banter and give you shit. Manny, John, Peggy, Raquel, Julia, the whole gang, they’re all awesome. Manny does a great job with the food. Anything off the menu will be good, but ask for the specials, Manny usually cooks up something interesting and delicious. In sum, obviously not a destination place given its proximity to NYC, but if you ever find yourself in Newark, or waiting for a train at Newark Penn Station, it is absolutely worth hopping over to Bello’s for a quick beer.

Typical neighbourhood pub, with good selcetion of decent beers: Stone, Anchor, Flying Fish, Duvel, Grimbergen, Samuel Smith. A few taps, mainly macros. Service was friendly. This place is close to Newark Penn Station, and probably the only good beer bar in Newark.
