Grubeater (5), Nijmegen, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | January 24, 2012 Known for its large range of beers, great service and knowledge of beers. They also have 100+ whisky’s. Most visitors come to taste special beers and have a nice conversation. | | mao (36), , Italy | | September 5, 2011 Posto davvero bello e tranquillo. Scomodo dal centro ma merita la fatica. Ho bevuto la miglior IPA di sempre. | Mpulese (1), Nijmegen, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | May 17, 2011 Nice café, pleasant people and everytime there is something new to discover. Range from pilsners to over the top, motor oil like dark beers. Very much worth going to. | Payt (1), Nijmegen, Netherlands does not count - explanation | | August 15, 2010 Great place, definately worth a trip for anyone visiting Nijmegen. Though busy at times (very busy) the staff always tries to help out, and comes as quick as possible.
It is decorated with old beer adverts and has many board games lying around.
The collection of beers is good, over a 100 to choose from. Most of them are Belgian, but there are some Dutch and German beers aswell. For people not that interested in beer they have a lot of whiskeys aswell. There are also some rarities on the list, but once people figure it out, they will be gone quick.
Also, the homemade Bitterballen (food) are very, very, very good, try them! | | Martinus (70), Nijmegen, Netherlands | | January 26, 2009 [ Updated June 2, 2011 ] They continue to evolve, so thought it waranted an update
Great place, sometimes rather (very) busy.
Nice selection of beers, mainly Belgium, but an increasing section of interesting Dutch and American brews. Known to have some jewels aging in the cellar. Staff generally knows a lot about the produce, and capable of good suggestions, sometimes even suggesting the hidden/forgotten bottles in the cellar.
The tasting menu’s, are a quick way to sample some of the beers.
Connaisseurship of the owner reflects in his list of whisk(e)y, bourbon and cognac too.
Great atmosphere, definately worth visiting when in Nijmegen | | jerohen (19), Bussum, Netherlands | | December 14, 2008 [ Updated December 10, 2010 ] Very nice bar. Located outside the center in a silent part of town. Staff is not that knowledgeable, but very kind and helpful. Very nice selection of beers, you can even order vintages of some brews (Chimay Bleu and Cuvee vd Keizer). The bar is really focused at letting inexperienced people getting to know different beer-styles, by means of sets of small glasses with different beers. Great atmosphere. I love this place. | | thewolf (138), Kolding, Denmark | | November 12, 2007 A great place! A nice array of Belgian (and few) Dutch draft beers as well as an extensive bottled beers list. I tried, but was unable to get in the basement - that I must try again next time - ’cos I’ve been told that there are goodies down there. The bar itself is rather English in style, quite dark, but homely.BRBRMy biggest surprise came when ordering a Dolle Oerbier - the ’tender took out an exact Oerbier glass, for my Mariage Parfait, I got a Mariage Parfait galss - not ’just’ a Boon glass. BRBRworst part, though, is that it’s quite hard to find... but worth the search... | | caesar (181), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | | October 31, 2005 I went to this bar when me and Jerohen were visiting Nijmegen 2 years ago. Nice old bar in an english pub style, lots of bottles decorating the walls. Nice beerlist, some rare beers indeed. We ordered an old Cantillon Iris, and then Jos himself came to tell us all about the bottles he had still left, because hardly anybody ordered them. So, if you order rare beers from Jos’ own cellar, the service is great, otherwise the young bartenders don’t know that much about beer. | | Hunsell (43), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | October 30, 2005 Situated in a quiet neighbourhood, barwise in the middle-of-nowhere, this bar gives a very homelike-feeling. We were sitting outside, we were served well (they came along with barsnacks, for free), atmosphere is good, and the interior looks allright. Large beerlist, beermenu’s, some rarity’s but mostly the wellknown Belgians. This is a nice beerbar and definately worth a visit when in Nijmegen, could be hard to find though. |
