| box986 (10), | | April 21, 2012 A great place for beer geeks. Owner, Vito, has a passion for beer and it shows in his Thursday promos, like a dark beer night or a saison night. Prices are better than any other beer bar in Bergen Co and Vito always has some rare crafts on tap. My favorite beer bar in NNJ.. | | ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | January 25, 2011 I stopped by Copper Mine today on my way home from work since I work less then 10 minutes away and I was in one of those "I really need a beer" type of moods. This place looks like a very simple corner bar on the main road of a town you’d probably avoid unless you had a reason to be there. Inside a found one bartender and one patron, both nice and seemed to be fairly knowledgeable about beer. Anyway, it seemed like a good place to grab a brew. The prices were decent, the atmosphere was fine, and the selection was solid. Considering the location I should have been here before tonight, and I should make a repeat visit soon. I wish there was a place with this kind of selection in Hoboken. | degowop (1), Hoboken, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | October 9, 2010 in an area dominated with bars carrying miller light, bud light, coors light and amstel, sometimes both in bottles and on tap, the copper mine pub is a sought after destination for those of us who prefer, well, really great beer.
while i do not live near the copper mine pub, whenever im passing through the area, i make it a point to stop in for a couple pints, knowing im most likely going to have beer ive never had the pleasure of sampling on tap. the selection is constantly changing with seasonal-appropriate beers. owner vito and barkeep matt are extremely friendly and knowledgable about beer and they make you feel right at home.
i wish copper mine pub all the best for continued success, and i cant wait for the late fall/early winter releases to hit the taps. | | koopa (13), , New Jersey | | May 28, 2010 [ Updated August 16, 2010 ] I went to Copper Mine Pub today to meet beerloco for an in person trade.
Atmosphere: Non-pretentious pub with about 20 taps and a decent bottle selection. Locals with an appreciation for good beer kind of place. Vito plays great music on his ipod all the time...so great that I’ve never seen anybody actually use the pay jukebox. They have open mic nights from time to time and organize brewery promo nights which are always fun. They recently added a beer engine so they usually have 1 cask or more at all times.
Service: Vito the owner is great. He is down to earth and a lot of fun. He knows his stuff when it comes to beer, wine and spirits and has done some world travel so he is fun to chat with. I’ve never met a more generous person when it comes to samples either. He just makes you feel comfortable and you know you are understood and in good hands because he enjoys drinking craft beer as much or more than selling it!
Selection: About 20 taps and 40 bottles of good brew. Not the most extravagant or obscure choices but all solid and especially great for the area. Good enough that I rarely head over the bridge to NYC these days. I sipped on some Racer #5’s because they were the hoppiest choice available at the time.
(UPDATED 5/31/09 selection has become even better. Vito is hosting lots of brewery nights and getting great tap choices such as CL brews on the regular. He also isn’t afraid to get sixtels of more exotic / less safe choices. Heck he will even order something based on your recommendation if you know your stuff and sell him on it!)
Food: none available at this time but Vito is happy to let you order from a local establishment and get it delivered to the bar (he even has menus for you!)
Value: Prices were very fair for the quality of the brew.
This was my type / speed of establishment. It’s the only bar I go to with some amount of regularity.
Reviewed on: 03-16-2009 | Rciesla (2), Exit 15W, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2010 [ Updated August 23, 2010 ] Its great to have a craft beer bar only a town over, they pretty much nail everything good that comes into the state which isn’t easy. The only issue i have is sometimes the hours are erratic so i would say call before coming if its after midnight. Vito does a great job rotating his 24 taps, and a nice bottle list of classics Belgian ale/lambics and new bottled offerings in Jersey. There is no food per say there has been speculation of a pizza oven but if your there early enough on they have delivery options. Small semi private bathrooms in the rear . About 8 seats at the bar itself, and 3 or 4 group tables. Not much in the way of ambiance rather straight forward pizzeria like space turned into a bar. A fair amount of flat screens hosting the various NJ/NY games on. A great option when i’m not looking to break the bank in the city. | | vtafro (24), Wayne, New Jersey | | April 7, 2010 [ Updated January 7, 2011 ] Pretty good craft beer bar, in an area where nyc is usually the only option. Taps rotate, new stuff usually and bottle list is pretty good. Other then the fact they close early time to time, some really good stuff on time to time and keeps beermenu list up to date. | | jimmack (23), Nutley, New Jersey | | June 24, 2009 [ Updated March 13, 2012 ] Great beer bar in the middle of a beer wasteland. Around 20 taps that rotate constantly, with some really nice offerings. No BMC products, and the only macro served is PBR to satisfy the hipster crowd. Also has around 50-60 bottled beers to choose from as well. The beers are all in top shape and the lineup is usually quite diverse. Some of the beers I have had there on tap in the past month or so: Allagash Tripel and Dubbel; Founders Cerise; Victory Storm King and Golden Monkey; DFH Festina Peche; Troegs Sunshine Pils and many more. Owner Vito is a good guy as are all the other bartenders I have seen there. Place is very small, with no food available as of yet, but you are welcome to bring in or order food from the outside. Great little place that this area sorely needed. |
