Big thanks to harrisoni for showing me this place. A bar that looks uninteresting on the outside, but which on the inside features a homely and cosy local bar with a beer list to die for, featuring an amazing range of Struise beers alongside a great range of the local Trappist and Abbey beers. Food is hearty in the bar and more along French lines in the restaurant. Service was very friendly although food took a while to arrive. Come her for a quiet authentic Belgian bar to sup some amazing beers and relax into the vibe.

Excellent cafe and restaurant. Now has a really good beer menu including over 20 from Struise and at reasonable prices. The restaurant does excellent and plentiful food.
Service can be slow when the old lady is in charge but much better when the young guy who looks like Tom Cruise is in there -efficient, enthusiastic and very knowledgable.

I donít think (looking at the rest of the ratings) that I had the usual service. This place was uhm..... interesting. The old lady was friendly but didnít know anything at all about beer. Also Iím still waiting for my food .____." We just decided to pay the bill and leave. At least Kraddel got some good beers with him.

Bonito restaurante con agradable terraza. La selecciůn de cerveza es de cervezas locales pero tienen un montůn de struise. La cerveza es barata. La comida no esta mal pero es cara

This place is located pretty much right across the street from the Struise brewery which is the reason why most beer geeks would wind up here, I assume. There are several exits to this place which had us confused a bit. The bar, the restaurant & smoking area appear to function all pretty much separately, we popped into the bar which has a very old school & local feel to it and appears to date from a pretty old area but has been up kept well. The radio was playing a good volume & some locals were hanging out at the bar. Place itself is pretty nice. The menu features a pretty good selection of Struise beers, nothing new for me but I have had a lot of Struise beers. The rest of the selection is of a nice size & features some small local brews. Unfortunately not everything there appears to be actually available. For our first selection we got something else than we wanted but we didnít have to pay & could finish the bottle, that is okay. Getting a replacement order took a very long time. We never actually got our second order because the lady who was serving us put the other order in our sight on the bar, un-opened & one of us eventually asked for glasses & opened the bottle himself after staring at the beer for 15 min. The thing was, we only made a quick stop here & the idea was for us to just grab a quick beer which turned out to be at complete odds with this place. We ordered some snacks (I mean bar snacks & not an actual dish of food) and when we eventually left in 40 min. we still hadnít received them & they appeared to be in stage whatsoever of preparing them. I understand that we were more hurried than most costumers here but a 40+ min. waiting time for bar snacks & orders taking more than half an hour with only about 6 costumers there at any given time seems a bit excessive to me. The lady serving us seemed to display a mix of being familiar with the place & being seemingly there for the first time ever so maybe she had been working there only recently. Still even by the slower Flemish standards, the service seemed very unhurried which was simply a bad mix with our disposition. Even when less pressed waiting that long for anything would unnerve me frankly.

We came in trough the smoking zone and restaurant . No-one there .. Spooky
Made it to the bar , were it was very calm and quiet ..
Very very old interior .
Lady was friendly , but so damn dumb when it came to beer .
A chonological explenation
- We ask green hop by de plukker , we get unlabeled weltmerz . Lady was not capable to taste the sourness in weltmerz ...
- We ask golden blend ( 7 Ä !!!! ) and get the regular . She searched again for green hop , and gives keikoppe ..
We ask ANOTHER bottle and i had to show her the bottle cause she didnt knew it ..
Finaly we got our 3 beers on the bar . Unopened , no glasses . This is after half an hour . our portion of snacks never even came . Service is friendly , but so , so damn pour !
Prices are insanely low on some stuff , but she doesnt find any of em, or theyre sold out .
One hell of a mind-hurting place . So many struise , so little prices , so damn pour service . 1 bottle took half an hour .. Damn ..
With ANY of service this was a 70+ place ...

Went back again for lunch after 3 years. Great food. Great beer menu to go with the food. Superb place, now that I have experienced it fully. Ham hock in mustar sauce was amazing.
We were at Westy on a Monday. No one was at Struise but they recommended we stop here if we wanted to try their beers. More than 10 Struise available. Well, we wanted to go to the schoolhouse, but this wasnít all that bad, except that after 6 Westy we couldnít really give the beers the attention they deserved.

Visited with Urbain before the Schooltje opened. Fairly decent selection of Struise beers and more with some Struise taps on rotation.
Good atmosphere of a more mom and pop place, too bad the proximity to the main road takes away from the peace and quiet. Inside is classical Belgian with the restaurant room having this typical smell of old places, sorta add a cachet to the place.
Did not eat there but the mosselen looked damn tasty, A definite better option than the below average canteen food at In de Vrede.
Good friendly service, plenty of locals around, with some old French tune splaying in the background.

When you get out from Struise you just have one spot to hit, this restaurant! Outstanding service and food, incredible choice of Struise beer, they all sell it for 5-6Ä, also some retired like the outblack! I will definitely return, maybe the best surprise I had in Belgium!
