72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Cunningham (248) Halden, Norway | May 23, 2013 A bit outside the normal "beer area" of Oslo. But htis is a nice old brown pub that has survived. Absolutely a decent range of different ales. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Wischylini (5) Sandvika, Norway | February 18, 2013 Den Gamle Major, or The Old Major, is a very cozy pub located in the Majorstuen-district of Oslo; it looks like an "old time"-public house, of which there aren’t many left in Oslo.
Although I did visit during their quiet hours, my friends and I were all delighted by the attentive and helpful staff.
Additionally, the staff proved very knowledgeable regarding their large selection of beer.
I haven’t tried any of their food, although their little food menu was very tempting, including their homemade bar snacks. The prices for food and drink weren’t all that high either.
Overall, Den Gamle Major is one of the most pleasant bars in Oslo, and compared to most places in Oslo, they have an ample selection of beers - Definitely worth visiting!
Note: The only reason I didn’t rate the food higher was because I didn’t get a chance to try it. |
