July 6, 2011 This bar is placed smack in the middle of Oslo Central Station (well not in the middle, but in conjunction to it, and very close to the tracks). As a commuter, I’ve walked past this place countless times. Never once had I thought of popping in. It’s tucked away to the side of a pretty big hall, so it’s not necessarily the easiest to discover. A while ago, I passed the doors, and saw some Nøgne Ø bottles in their fridge, peaking my interest. This weekend, I had a few hours to spare as I was waiting for my train, and decided to visit. And what a gorgeous bar this is. Probably about 6m ceiling height, beautiful paintings, comfy furniture with dark supple leather. In addition to their NØ bottles, they had some other micro stuff, and a lot of macro stuff. Not a terrible tap list either, and certainly not for a place that has, as far as I know, been completely under the radar of the Oslo beer scene. Maredsous Bruin and Houblon Chouffe IPA tripel on tap when I was there, amongst other things. The bartender promptly recommended the Maredsous to me when he saw me checking out the bottles. They also have food there, but I didn’t try it as I was recovering from a gigantic meal at the shabby indian spot right outside. This is not at all amongst the best places in Oslo to drink good beer, but if you’re sitting at Oslo S, not knowing what to do with your time, it’s a perfectly decent place to have a drink. |
