Jayseppi (1), Ontario does not count - explanation | | May 11, 2012 Pretty good place; great in terms of what’s available beer-wise in the city. Have a decent rotating selection of local seasonal taps as well as rotating casks from plenty of local breweries. The food isn’t anything to get excited about, but it’s good enough after a few pints. Service is average, but regulars get some slightly better treatment (as it should be). Not going to blow anyone away, but it’s a great place to get some new local releases and catch the game with friends. | | worldbeertaste (46), , England | | January 7, 2012 Easily the best place in Ottawa for a decent pint. This place has 22 taps as well as Cask Ale with a nice selection of bottles in their cooler. Not bad. Cider is also available. Staff is knowledgable and very friendly. They respect a beer evaluator. Food could use some work but who cares when the beer selection is this good. | | JesseM (31), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario | | July 27, 2011 Stopped in yesterday with a fellow younger beer geek friend. Odd location inside and on the edge of a mini-mall kind of place. Large amount of space but sort of in narrow sections. Lots of neat breweriana decorating the place which was cool. The place was super-duper busy so the staff were obviously stressed out, which I can understand, but they still did a decent job of being attentive and friendly. It helped sitting at the bar. Tap line up is awesome, all Ontario stuff but there’s a ton of them, and legitimate cask! The Mad Tom was outrageously good, I could have killed the cask myself if I cared not for my liver. Menu looked good though we did not partake, the kitchen staff looked they were on the brink of some serious emotional break downs, which inspire empathy in me (also I basically live on shawarma when I visit Ottawa). Prices were kind of meh, though not offensively high. I would definitely go back, in fact I would frequent the place if I lived in Ottawa. | | pushkinwow (54), Ottawa, Ontario | | June 30, 2011 Been here a couple of time in the the last couple of months, most recently for the Cask Festival. Probably the best selection of local (Ontario) beers in the city. Suffers from a poor location with a weird inside patio in a mall but also has an outside patio that is nice. Food is decent, as is the service but I am hoping they continue their trend of rotating in different local beers and that they expand their cask selection (3 the last time I was there). | | rejtable (25), Ontario | | February 18, 2011 Nothing terrible. Here before hockey game, server was efficient, but sitting in the courtyard was not great ambience. 2 casks on though made it worth it. | | cfrancis (58), Ottawa, Ontario | | January 23, 2010 [ Updated April 13, 2012 ] For Ottawa this is a half decent tap list. All Ontario micros which isn’t something to brag about. Pub style with pub style food. Burgers and pizza were pretty good. Better places to go in Hull than here but if you are looking to watch the game and slam back some beer and wings, this is the place. | | jerc (211), Toronto, Ontario | | October 25, 2006 I was expecting more of an old-school, wood filled pub along the lines of the Bow & Arrow or Rebel House in Toronto, but this is along those lines with that “plunked in a mall” feel to it. It was cozy though, and the smell of chicken wings permeated the air as we walked in instantly deciding my menu choice. Wings were delicious, though I have to admit that mine tasted better, and I was sweating a lot less after returning Intertiaboy’s suicide wings in exchange for my medium wings! The staff was friendly and courteous, despite an inability to identify what kind of sauce is on the wings, hehe. Cask of Scotch Irish was not at its prime but still quaffable. Beer selection had decent sampling of Ontario micros. Nice spot to hang out and watch the game, really enjoyed my visit, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going out of your way to get there. | | tupalev (56), Waterloo, Ontario | | August 10, 2006 Decent sports pub type of place. Good tap selection, usually some cask as well which has always been in good shape when I have had it. Service adequate, but not knowledgeable at all. I have had a chance to try the food yet on my 2 visits. A good stop if you’re in the area, shame it doesn’t have near the charm of its sister pub the Bow and Arrow in Toronto. | | JoeMcPhee (398), Toronto, ON, Ontario | | April 16, 2006 Located in the heart of the Glebe area of Ottawa. Fairly standard pubby decor. Three hand pumps and about another 15-20 taps. A wide selection featuring McAuslan, Wellington, and Scotch Irish. The food here was pretty good, typical burgers, but lots of selection of toppings and choice of patties. Servers were friendly, but as mentioned before, they didn’t seem to know the beers all that well. |
