There’s not much to choose from in Oulu, so Leskinen is one of the few places you most likely end up at unless you don’t want to drink at home.
Selection is pretty limited and part of it is dedicated to staples meant to please the regular bargoers (Guinness etc.). However, at least the last time I went there they had some of the rarer Finnish varieties available on tap.
The general mood of the place depends on when you go there. On the weekend nights, it tends to be absolutely packed and really loud but then again, if you go there during the early hours it can be really enjoyable. The patio is, however, located right next to the busiest pedestrian street in the Oulu city centre which can be annoying to some people.
Service is pretty much what you can expect from a Finnish bar. Friendly and polite for sure, but don’t count on the staff initiating any small talk if you’re alone.
I am not 100% sure but I don’t think they serve any food here (it’s quite uncommon in Finnish bars in general).
Overall, I probably would not recommend it very highly, on the (northern) Finnish average, it’s not too bad. If you do happen to end up in Oulu and are feeling thirsty, it’s a pretty safe place to start your journey.
Probably the most beer-oriented bar in Oulu. Located at some sort of pedestrian street (along restaurants and more partyish places), it is quite small and humble. Has ten-ish taps, and some bottles. The selection isn’t that huge, but I’m told it has a good rotation. Finnish- expensive prices, simple interiour. Seems to attract all sorts of people (not only beer snobs). Food-wise quite meager; a set of ’tapas’. But for now, has the only real ale tap in northern finland (afaik).
This used to be the best pub for beer hunting in Oulu but the competition is now harder. Quite small place with very nice ambiance and professional staff. Many changing taps and a real ale tap also. Lots of bottles also and a little variety of small but tasty Tapas. All prices are a tad high here but still overall number one bar to go for a beer in Oulu. Warning: weekend evenings really crowded!
Pretty nice ambiance, full on a Wednesday evening. Knowledgeable staff, friendly service though a bit hard to get service sometimes. A lot of taps with four taps on rotation. The rest are filled with rather dull affairs. Not a lot in bottles, though some of that. Serves tapas. Prices are pretty steep for halves.
This is place to visit when you are in Oulu. Seems that their tap selection rotates quite well and they have well-kept real ale. Some Finnish micros too. Staff is friendly and beer-knowing. English pub -type ambiance.
