| theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | February 7, 2012 Typical Sports Bar in a Strip Mall place. There are a bunch of places more or less just like Johnny’s in the area, and nothing about this place really marks it as a beer destination. Food is decent bar food, and they do some really good daily specials. If you are a local, you already know about this place. If you are from out of town, not really a place to hit - there are numerous better places to visit if you are here for the beer. | | KapitiCritique (32), Kansas City, Missouri | | August 15, 2011 I’d say this is a crossover restaurant. There are about 8 locations in the KS-MO area. The food is good and the locations are convenient. They carry the usual big brewery carbonated liquids but coming out of Lawrence Kansas they are acquainted with Free State and Boulevard is hard to ignore in the KC Metroplex. The clientele has grown up and their tastes matured and we have developed a certain disdain for the same old rice and corn brews that are so prominent. So Johnny’s Taverns cater to both sides of the aisle. I sat around with a bunch of red-neck, long-neck Bud types - or would have been ten years ago, who were happy to quaff an IPA. Crossover bars are important to the advance of good beer. They are just there to serve the customer. Craft Beer wait staff are getting a little snooty and that just does not help. Johnny’s on 119th is a good place for a pleasant bit of eating and imbibing and the staff are friendly. |
