6 reviews for Metcalf Discount Liquor - 135th Street
ccoburn (3), Leawood, Kansas does not count - explanation | | April 11, 2009 Loads of good beers. Beers set by rating in two cooler doors... selection is growing and growing.... there will be more obscure Belgians in eventually. | | CH47 (11), Kansas | | April 11, 2009 [ Updated October 11, 2009 ] Two cooler doors with top rated available beers in the state in order by rating. Most employees know the products, during the day, the beer manager can help. The beer that "theisti" talks about being in the window is budweiser products.... the heat cant hurt it too bad.... and I’m pretty sure I heard the last half of "Abbey Road" when I was there... can’t be muzak... | | theisti (114), Leawood, Kansas | | April 9, 2008 [ Updated July 8, 2009 ] UPDATE May 2009 - they have re-configured the store so that only 12 and 24 packs of macros are sitting in the cooker (area right next to their unprotected windows). Also, they seem to have cannibalized much of their bum wine section for craft beers. The layout and selection of this place are really improving. Also, prices are always good here, generally noticeably better than Lukas OP. The folks working the store seem to really know beer, and care. Also, CH47 - your comments lead me to believe you may be an employee of Metcalf 135th. Rating your own place is pretty lame. Even still, shouldn’t you give yourself a 10/10 for service? Your rating doesn’t count, so its not that big of a deal.
UPDATE Summer 2008 - they still have the hot beer issue, but the selection here has improved to at least the same level as the 91st location.
Original Rating - April 2008 - Visited midday, not much help present at all. Beer is tucked away in the far corner of the store, a little scattered and certainly kept way too warm. I touched a 12 pack of Fat Tire and it was in the 80’s at least. | | Gregis (23), Shawnee, Kansas | | April 4, 2008 [ Updated April 18, 2008 ] If you’re in the area, it’s worth checking out. It’s better organized than the 91st St location and except for the mix-a-sixer choices, it has an arguably better selection. They have several beers that are about a buck less per bottle or sixer than I’ve seen at many other places (e.g.: Rochefort 8 @ $4.29). If you don’t live in this part of town, it’s one of those stores that’s worth popping into just to see if they have any rare finds that other stores no longer have (e.g.: I found 2006 Matilda & La Folie long after everyone else had sold their stock). | IH8AB (1), Kansas does not count - explanation | | June 25, 2007 Good selection for KS. Clerk said they have a better selection at their 91st street store. Good prices but staff didn’t seem to know much... | muiscfanatic (2), Overland Park, Kansas does not count - explanation | | February 2, 2006 The staff was somewhat knowledgeable and eager to help. They had a pretty good selection for being in Kansas. Everything was reasonably priced, the lady up front said they do case discounts on beer though. She was really nice though. |
