62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 imdownthepub (253) Banbury, England | December 25, 2012 Popular student pub, handily situated at the end of Broad Street between The White Horse and The Turf Tavern. Owned by the now non Brewers, Youngs so gets the Wells produced copies now. Loads of small rooms towards the back with a corridor linking them to the main bar. Generally around 4 Real Ales on plus a range of bottles. Lately Bath Ales have been providing the guest beer. It is generally a scrum at the bar to get served and for some reason, it appears to be cool to pay by card in here which slows the whole process down. The upstairs rooms are student accommodation, hence its popularity, it’s actually owned by Wadham College. The outside seating is very popular too. Update Dec ’12. Very busy and popular pub. The beer has improved recently, lots of character. Very Good. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 lada66 (131) Savonlinna, Finland | September 26, 2012 A very nice place to some pints in the city centre. Cotleigh 25 4,0% was my choice (20.6.2009). | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Boudicca (367) London, England | February 22, 2012 A multi-roomed Young’s pub, popular with students.
The King’s Arms sits in a Georgian building at a busy corner in the centre of Oxford. It’s multi-roomed, light and airy and quite studenty (one of the colleges apparently has a room upstairs), with a smaller locals’ type bar at one side. It’s a little threadbare and frayed at the edges but has a comfortable, lived in feel.
They serve meals and snacks which weren’t great but did the trick. We had pork pies which were taken from the fridge (where I imaging they had been defrosting) already on a plate and wrapped in cling film.

Beer range is from the Wells & Young stable and supplemented by Bath Ales, beer is usually in decent nick. Situated in a very pretty area of Oxford in terms of architecture and close to the likes of the White Horse and Turf so worth popping in. I wouldn’t go out of my way to rush in here for the beer as it isn’t that exciting but the quality is good and the pub is usually vibrant and interesting. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | October 1, 2011 Packed with students, but service was still pretty good. Large-ish range of beers. Decent food. OK place smack in the middle of the university. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 rosenbergh (334) Helsinki, Finland | January 11, 2011 Big, popular and crowded pub. At least it was on Friday night. Mostly Young’s on 8 casks. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Velkyal (70) Charlottesville, Virginia | September 7, 2010 Everything an English pub should be, welcoming, buzzing, well kept ales and a ploughmans to die for. A lovely place to go. | 62 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 FatPhil (251) Tallinn, Estonia | January 17, 2010 Great pub for lunches, but make sure you get your order in early - they’re popular. Snugs are great, but even the open areas have character. Best selection of Youngs beers outside London in my experience. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 joe19612 (29) camberley, England | July 26, 2008 Not very busy, quite comfortable as most people were outside. Beer quality good the St Austell Tribute on top form.
Did not have any food so could not rate. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 Rune (319) Tromsø, Norway | April 24, 2008 Spacious and comprehensive Youngs pub with different rooms, one for billiard and one library for a quiet retreat, among others. Eight on cask, including two guest ales (from Hidden and St. Austell in mid-March). Located at the very end of Broad Street right between White Horse and Turf Tavern – very short walking distance if you find yourselves on a pub crawl. The toilets were found alright, and I had a really good time here during my visit on 16th March 08. |
