3 reviews for Steinkeller
wizzardofboz (1), Maryland does not count - explanation | | November 20, 2008 subterranean Bavarian beer hall. Best place in or around Oxford | | Skip (12), Indiana | | December 29, 2005 I travel to this location ONLY because it is the closest location to my Indianapolis home at which I can find Kostritzer on tap. The food is mediocre, servers not well versed in their beers. Other than that, it’s great. | | Silphium (50), Haslett, Michigan | | January 20, 2004 [ Updated July 1, 2004 ] The Steinkeller offers a limited selection of German beers on tap. Highlights include Schneider Aventinus, Paulaner Salvator, Spaten Optimator, and Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier. Also has one or two rotating taps usually occupied by Maibocks or Oktoberfests. Service is typically mediocre and sometimes terrible; there is often quite a bit of &quo;lag time&quo; between paying for a beer and actually receiving it. Great food though. Atmosphere is typically loud and smoky, and it is difficult to have a conversation in this environment. Update 7/1/04: The Steinkeller is going through a &quo;new management&quo; cycle (according to a waiter) and has eliminated many of the unique items on its menu, including Goetta, their exquisite scallops, and several of their German dishes. Apparently unique offerings are too challenging for the corporate Oxford crowd. Not sure what this means for the future of their beer selection... |
