Good quality food. Big place for being in the middle of nowhere. I can only assume an excellent view as it was pitch black that night. Could see the haystack in the distance and 10 ft. white caps. Beer on tap was really good. Service was slightly above average. I’d go back if it wasn’t in the middle of nowhere. I’d definitely go during the day, however. A couple taps were spent, :(.

The main attraction of Pelican is that it’s on the beach. Sitting on the patio drinking a beer there is one of my favorite things ever. The food is good, but over priced, along with the beer. Definitely worth the trip, they have a few beer gems and the experience alone is worth it.

Pelican pub is a great place, right off the beautiful beach. They have a great variety of microbrews which have earned them numerous awards in yearly competitions.

OK, the view from the Pelican is what they are charging for. This place is crankin’ in the tourist $$$. Their beer is decent and their food is good except both are way over priced. Be ready to drop some dough if you plan on hanging out here to drink. Beers were $5.50-$6 and it seemed the staff there were uninformed about the pricing. I asked 3 different wait staff about the price of a pint and all 3 sort of bumbled through a bout of um....uh...well...um...lemmie check...before I got the answer. The 22oz bombers they were selling in the lobby were cheaper then what they had on tap. Also, it does not say on the menu what a regular or tall beer cost because I am sure they would sell less beer. The amount of reading material you get when you sit down is impressive so they have nailed the marketing aspect of a brewery and their list of awards is impressive but I didn’t think it came across in the beer so much. Maybe I expected to be blown away by something that costs $6/pint. Granted, this is one of the only watering holes in this part of the coast but still... Again, you are paying for the view here.

Wow, what a beautiful setting, right on the beach of Cape Kiwanda. Inside is very nice, you walk into a store area then on the bar with seating in the bar and beyond. Had great service from the bartender with some free tasters, and good info about the beer. Good selection of all the regular Pelican beers with some nice seasonals as well. Value was average on beer, didn’t eat any food. Got some great beer to go from the store, they had the regulars as well as some Grand Cru, Stormwatchers, Wee Heavy, and a few other limited beers. Great place and will go out of my way to go back here.

2010-06. Visited on a quiet Monday afternoon last June, this is one of the most scenic brewpubs you could hope for! With windows around the room, you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the beach while you sip your samplers of tasty beverages and eat delicious crab cakes and fresh clam chowder. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful, as were the other staff at the door. Light rock music serenaded our meal. We tried eight of their own on tap and took away some bottles for later, most were pretty solid. Would return here to go back to the beach!

I can’t imagine that any brewpub in the country has a better view. Right on the beach. Admire the surfers and the giant rock. We stopped in for breakfast and beer samplers. Between swigs of coffee. People were walking past me and laughing. Only later did I realize that I was wearing my Schlafly "beer is not just for breakfast anymore" T-shirt. Go away! Quasi-alcoholic geekery in progress! Nothing to see here! Found the beers to be nice but overcarbonated. I know they’re big award-winners, but I’d come just for the coffee, eggs and view.

(Visited 02/2010): Finally got to visit this place after hearing rave reviews and trying a few of their bottled beers. Pelican is located right near the ocean (at least by looking at the map, it was dark when we visited) not too far off the 101 on Kiwanda. They have a decent sized lot out front. The outside is appealing to the beer-lover’s eye with a large tank and windows allowing a view of some of the brewing equipment. The interior opens into a gift shop that sells bottles and clothing along with other goodies. Beyond that is the restaurant and bar. The bar wraps around with table seating the whole way. There are also separate banquet rooms. The brewing area is again visible from the bar and is pretty impressive in scale. A chalkboard above the bar reveals what brews are available. They also offer a 7-beer sampler. As for the beers, they are just as good at the brewpub as what I have tried in the past. There are around 8 taps and they range from lighter fare like the Kiwanda Cream Ale and Bière de Garde to the Tsunami Stout. There are one or two seasonals such as the Bridal Ale as well. All of the beers are high quality. Service on a weekday evening was very good. We sat at the bar and the bartender was punctual and knowledgeable about the beers. It’s hard to avoid seafood in a place like this, but as we had been eating and drinking beer the whole day all we could manage was a split appetizer of spinach/artichoke dip. It was very good though. Overall this place is awesome and well worth the drive from Portland.

A beautiful spot to try some classic Oregon and PacNW-style beers. If you’re there in the Spring, the Riptide Red is not to be missed. The Tsunami Stout was worth a 2-hour drive from Portland once a month in the winter for me. Also the food is excellent.
