Beer list was decent and prices weren’t bad. We ate in beer garden. Ambiance overall was ok and service was decent. | | Slipstream (59), | | February 13, 2011 Apparently this Westchester bar is owned/operated by someone associated with The Blind Tiger in NYC. An attractive old place with low-key lighting and wood everywhere. The highlight is the 20 rotating taps that contain a few hard-to-find gems. The food was hearty and good quality for a beer joint. Service was friendly, but a little spotty.. The place seems popular with the locals - there were families there (on Sunday at around 5), as well as groups of older and younger folks. Place was really dimly lit. About 20 taps all very solid including GI Dominique and Night Stalker, and Nemesis 2010. Had the chips and salsa which was good. Beers were all $6 each. Prices are a little high, especially for the area but I guess you pay for quality. I was one of four people in the place and loved every minute of it. I had Adam, the Beertender and Dannielle the waitress all to myself. It was in between lunch and dinner but they put together a burger for me that was so good that I am still fantasizing about it. But lets get to point huh? The Beer! O my God! I was the first time that day that I regretted being out on y Fatboy. What a huge selection and every beer was available to go in growlers! I will be back and with a DD! | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | March 14, 2010 Opened as a sister bar to the Blind Tiger, Birdsall does capture some of that same atmosphere. Long bar on one side, dining on the other. Gorgeous dark wood, old fashioned cash registers instead of the touch screens that have become industry standard it seems. Has a nice classy old feel to it,while being trendy and modern enough. 20 taps with small black tap handles instead of branded ones, numbered with 2 large chalk boards with the selections on them. Was there for the opening which was a Captain Lawrence event, featuring 5 of their beers on tap, and a 6th in bottles. Food was good for opening weekend, my wife enjoyed her burger, but at rare it was still cold in the middle, but definitely the rarest burger I’ve seen in a while. Fries were a bit week. Cheese plate was exactly that, a plate with three huge hunks of cheese - but no bread, crackers, fruits, nuts, anything to go with it really. They will fill growlers, but they might be a bit on the pricey side. Prices seemed just a bit high for Peekskill, more aligned with NYC, which I guess is what they’re going for. Service was good for the opening weekend, and I’m sure will be even smoother as they work out the kinks. I’ll be back. |
