| chrispratt (14), , | | March 3, 2012 Good german beers on tap, and good pretzels to go along with them. | | michael-pollack (100), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | | August 4, 2011 Cool ambiance. Decent service. Very good German draft selection. Very good food. Reasonably priced. I will be back. | | ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | May 8, 2011 Finally I’m rating a place from my recent trip to Philly that Nick didn’t beat me to. What happened Nick, you don’t remember getting to that part of the night? (I kid!)
Anyway, this was a decent little bar. A nice selection of German and German style beers. I enjoyed the German style food too. I like the waitresses dressed as Bavarians gimmick. I’d go back to this place if in the area and craving a liter of pils or hefe.
| | Pivoyager (63), Gaithersburg, Maryland | | November 16, 2010 Decent German beerhall on South Street that offers about twenty taps, one of them being the delightful Ayinger Celebrator. The Brauhaus has a sleek decor of wood and brick with the large bar that sits beneath a mezzanine section. However, the bar area is small and can get cramped. The food, at least the meal I ordered, was mediocre. Still, the beer made the trip and would encourage further visits. | | guzzler67 (38), Hanover, Maryland | | September 26, 2010 Attractive spot right on busy South St near 7th. Lots of light oak with matching decor. We sat at the bar with tables and booths on the same level and a cool looking mezzanine section above. Taps were mostly German, as expected, along with some area selections such as Ramstein, Stoudts and Left Hand. Matching glassware with all our drafts. German inspired menu with good bratwurst and schnitzel. Service at the bar was indifferent, neither friendly nor rude, but trying to get his attention must have looked like an improvised game of charades. Wouldn’t like being here if was busy. Fun diversion; unsure of a return visit. | | italianjohn (127), Penndel, Pennsylvania | | September 9, 2010 A nice beer hall style Brauhaus .... great find further down South Street .... In my experience the service was friendly and fast and the place was clean ... only thing was the german music was pretty loud and I think I can still hear a tuba playing in my head .... the food was good the homemade pretzel was great and the entrees were between 16 and 25 bucks ..... Now on to the beer they had a nice selection of German bottles and on draft ... some of the bottles are hard to find in the area ... and if German beer isn’t your thing they had a mix of Belgian, Austrian and other bottles. They had a couple of big TV’s with the Phils on so overall I liked the place. A nice change of pace from typical Pubs. | | Leafs93 (74), Conshohocken, Pennsylvania | | August 31, 2010 Very solid beer list, great german selection on draft and bottled and alot of craft bottles. Pricing was decent. However the food was ok and the service was terrible. Our waitress must have been in a rush, she hurried us along. I had planned to stayand have more beers, but she brought the check and we left for Varga. I was surprised since the place was only half full. This place has potential, just turn off the repetitive crappy german music and focus on the beers. | | patrickfannon (16), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | June 9, 2010 Any serious beer drinker worth his/her salt should avoid this scenester-hipster Disney World Epcot style "bar." Extremely crowded, loud, and usually hot. No room at the bar, and a poorly designed layout force the Lederhosen-clad waitresses--which, at least, you would expect to be attractive and friendly, yet are anything but--to rudely push past you as you stand aimlessley between the bar and booths. I guess they have a good selection, but technically so does Anheuser-Busch. The stricly German-style selection is, frankly, annoying and gimmicky. I’ll take Monk’s, Teresa’s Next Door, or Capone’s over this dump any day. Avoid unless you want to overpay for a bunch of bocks, pilsners, and schawarzbiers. Terrible. | | delirium11 (27), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | June 7, 2010 [ Updated June 10, 2010 ] Interesting place. Loved the traditional German food, but not everyone will. If you don’t want to be adventurous with your food, do not eat here. The service was kind of crappy. The beers were great, however we watched them sit and die on the bar as our server was on the other side of the bar chatting. It wasn’t busy in there, we were one of three tables. When he got around to getting our beer, he stuck a straw in our beer to stir the head back up. If we were stubborn people, we would have sent the beers back, but we never want beer to go to waste. | | phillybeer7779 (10), | | June 2, 2010 Fun place to visit on South Street in Philly. Very German, from the music, to the soccer on tv, but especially in the selection. I’ve had some German beers there that I have never heard of before (a Granitbock!?!) Plus, there is Das Boot available if you go with some friends and are down for a hardcore night of drinking. The food is standard German fare, and definately on the pricey side. The service was very knowledgable (and bonus points for the girls in beer wench outfits!). I have to give love to our waiter for telling my table that we had "the best beer order in a long time," then remembering it on the next visit. For the record it was two Aventinus drafts, a Duvel, and a 90 Min IPA. |
