| Capa (172), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | February 18, 2012 The bar is not polished, not modern, but very comfortable and corner bar feeling. Friendly barkeepers willing to explain the beers. The brewery is visible behind glass panes. They had six of their beers on when I was there along with a 2010 RR Temptation tap. Beers were good and of a fairly wide variety. I didn’t eat so can’t comment there. Real mellow atmosphere. Casual and comfortable. Very nice. | | Slipstream (59), | | January 23, 2012 [ Updated May 19, 2012 ] Interesting and eccentric brewpub in Center City, Philly. The big brewkettles are behind a glass wall right near the bar, so you can keep an eye on the beer being made as you drink. There are showcases full of little dolls wearing all sorts of outfits - guess they must be nodding head dolls. An attractive and mostly wooden interior, with a traditional look to it. I like the vibe here quite a bit. I didn’t try the food on this visit, but the beers were good - there were around 6-8 taps of fresh brew, and you can buy inexpensive small glasses if you like. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about a number of subjects - good qualities in a bartender. So far I have only been there during the day, when the crowd was sparse and low-key, but I would like to visit again. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | December 7, 2011 Large place, pretty empty on a Wednesday at lunchtime. Beers were mostly OK, service was good, and burgers were delicious. Worth a stop. | | r464 (12), Earth, Pennsylvania | | October 14, 2011 Great pub fare with a very good selection of their own brews. None of them are bad, so long as you are familiar with the style. Prices are on par with the city. It can get crowded later, but it is a great lunch spot. | | fredandboboflo (62), East Setauket, New York | | October 9, 2011 An odd, hit or miss sort of place. Selection is usually good if they have their seven taps filled, but not always the case, and some of their options can fall on the boring and overly sweet side. On the other hand, they put together some pretty good IPA’s and some unusual styles too, so again, hit or miss. I call the place odd because of the bar set up where you’re at once in an open area with space behind you and at the same time sort of secluded and facing directly away from everything going on in the bar, and I’ve felt ever so slightly uncomfortable about that the two times I’ve been. Not as though I felt I was in danger or anything, things just seemed a bit off. The last time I went the bartender was very into beer, which is always nice to see. Prices felt slightly high for the beer being served, but I guess that’s the nature of being in a city such as Philly. A place I’d certainly return to from time to time, but always would make sure they had something on that I’d be likely to enjoy. | | TURDFERGUSON (117), Carrboro, North Carolina | | July 26, 2011 Only came here to do some ticking on two different occasions. Beers were pretty good. Cool that they make a berliner weisse. I would be thrilled if this place was in Carrboro or Chapel Hill. In Philly, it was just okay. | Flerg (7), Miami, Florida does not count - explanation | | June 7, 2011 So this place has 3 things they brew on tap, and nothing else (draft or bottle). The three things are all lame (I swear the one they call an amber ale is a stout, also).
Service is friendly, decor is pleasant, if tattered. Food is ok.
Not bad, but nothing special. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | May 5, 2011 Not my favorite place in the world. The place is called the nodding head because they’re obsessed with bobble head dolls there. Ok! They only had three things on tap which was a dissapointment. The Berliner Weisse which everyone raves about didn’t knock my socks off. I thought 6 bucks for a 3 beer flight was a tad on the high side, especially since nothing they had was over 5%. The place is loud and dark and dingy, but none of those in charming ways. The bar was really small and felt out of place in the room. Not a place I’m going to be rushing back to in the future. | | italianjohn (127), Penndel, Pennsylvania | | March 21, 2011 Walked up the narrow steps to the second floor and enjoyed the atmosphere .... Really nice looking old bar kind of an dark older feel to everything in there ... friendly waitress who knew her beers and was prompt .... They had 8 beers on tap I tried half of them and enjoyed some of the staple brews and some others not so much .... the food was good had a smoked turkey wrap and the fries not too bad try them with the bourbon jalapeno mustard .... paid 8.50 for parking a few blocks away .... all in all I’d come back to try some brews if passing by, but wasn’t blown away with any of their brews | | watson1977 (55), The dub c, Pennsylvania | | February 24, 2011 while the bartenders were friendly and fast here, i had trouble finding any other redeeming qualities about this place. it was dark, dingy, crowded, and stuffy. It appeared to be very dirty and was filled with a higher concentration of people with poor hygiene (to say it nicely) than most bars i’ve been. the dart board setup (where drunks throw darts across the walkway at the back of the bar) was a nice touch as it added danger and excitment to my visit. i had a belgian chocolate stout which had little if any chocolate to the flavor or aroma and quite frankly it was terrible...one of the VERY few times ive ever sent a beer back. the BPA was however fairly drinkable and i was able to choke down 2 pints before running for the door. i would not go back here. ever. |
