80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 Borresteijn (141) Amsterdam, Netherlands | July 31, 2012 Visited on the way to RBESG ’12 with erickok. Great bar next to our hotel :-) Six rotating taps, some bottles in the fridge. Place looks like a mix between a brown café and a sports canteen. All wooden tables, brick walls, nice outside garden which was (unfortunately) completely reserved for a party. Food were some snacks and lucky for us they also had some bbq meat. All dirt cheap and good. Service was very good, waiter was really happy and eager to let us try everything they had. Would definitely go again whenever I’m around. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 erickok (89) Tours, France | July 23, 2012| Updated June 3, 2013 What a crazy place. First of, it’s located outside the city centre and as it happened right next to our hotel. From the outside it looks like an apartment building, on the inside like a sports cantine. The tap list consisted of 8 micros, which were of very varying quality. None were really strong or dark, but still an interesting variety to them, including fruit flavoured beers. Also some bottles, including a cool micro Czech barley wine, the K31. They had a grill going on and the meat and cheese from that was great. The guy at the bar spoke English and was enthusiastic about serving us. On top, everything (except the barley wine maybe) was crazily cheap. Don’t expect a fancy, modern style bar, but instead an adventurous local pub. We really liked it. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20 brugmanneke (36) , Germany | June 17, 2012| Updated June 3, 2013 Located between the main train station and the Plzeňský Prazdroj brewery. A good place to taste different beers from small Czech breweries on tap. There are usually six rotating taps, though when we went there (on a Monday), there were only four, plus bottled beers. Food is limited to the usual Czech bar snacks, which means you won’t stay hungry, and quite cheap. The ambiance reminded me of a sports club home, not very cozy, but not dislikable either. A good place to sample beers, though. Luckily non-smoking. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 pivoveskotsku (3) , Scotland | June 16, 2012| Updated June 3, 2013 Best place in Plzen to sample beers from small breweries on tap. Constantly changing selection of 6 beers, often has a really good variety. Serves classic, if a little conservative, Czech brews and also the more adventurous from the likes of Matuska and Kocour, who brew very much in the style of the U.S craft beer industry. Food is bar-snacks and relatively basic but the pickled cheese is well worth trying. Non-smoking and busy most evenings, so booking is required if you desire a table. A great bar! | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 3fourths (1122) Boulder, Colorado | December 6, 2011| Updated June 3, 2013 A member pub of Alliance PIV (http://www.aliancepiv.cz) serving only small and medium-sized Czech breweries. Four taps all quickly rotating, three during the first night’s session. Smoke-filled small room. Snacks to go with your beer. Bottle selection for here or take-away. Go here. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 motelpogo (31) Plzen, Czech Republic | November 30, 2009| Updated April 23, 2010 freshly opened bar devoted to smaller czech breweries. located through the first door to the left as you enter the na rychtarce/lotr/groll/lautensack/whatever-you-want-tocall-it brewpub complex, 5 minutes’ walk from na parkanu. about time plzen had a place like this with 4 rotating taps. on opening night they were service pernstejn 12, dudak, opat 12 and opat apricot. i’m excited, though, because krakonos 12 should be on this week. non-smoking, for some weird reason. for the time being, the pub is only open on wednesday, friday and saturday. a friendly and pretty knowledgeable bunch of patrons; a good place to talk czech beer |
