I’ve been to D’s many many times with family and friends, and have yet to be disappointed. The place sits on a main road that runs through the city of Pittsburgh itself, and one of the area’s inner-ring urban-esque suburbs. D’s is bisected into a small sit-down restaurant and a more bar-like area. One can drink, order, and eat food from either side. In the back is the notorius "beer cave," where this is a very extensive selection of Belgian, English, German, and American craft beers. The prices of these selections are generally among the best in the area, and an additional dollar is taken off of each one if they are carried out. There is also a cold part of the "beer cave" where individual bottles can be purchased for enjoyment there. Again, the selection and prices are good for all but the most snobby of beer snobs. The staff is friendly and helpful, especially given that the restaurant and bar are usually quite busy. It is a place that all ages of people can be seen, and the restaurant area is find for young children. The food is simple but well prepared. Their hot dogs are famous and come in a variety of presentations. The pizza is a personal favorite. Sandwiches are also available, all at a good price. Overall, a very good place to go for dinner, drinks, or to score some rare booze.

D’s for me is all about two things. One, the Beer Cave! and Two, the deep fried hot dog! They have an enormous selection of bottled beer and rotating beer on tap. Make sure to get a ’sixer’ to go and grab a dog while you ponder your selection of soon to be dead soldiers. You can find some real values if you look hard enough.

One of my top 3 favorites in Pittsburgh. The plus side 1. huge selection and while some of the bottles may be pricey, understand that these bottles are just pricey regardless of where you buy them. Shop around and you won’t find them much cheaper. 2. Friendly staff and if you’re sitting at the bar, very knowledgable as well - I’m not saying the floor staff is not, only that I typically sit at the bar. 3. Cool neighborhood vibe. The place is usually crowded but very friendly and coming from a good cross section of people. And the food? Well it is a hot dog shop, but that said, the dogs are good stuff.

Great place if you want to get beers to go. I’ve found some hard to find ones here.

Stopped in today to get some grub and check the place out. It was a decent enough place to grab a hot dog and they had a pretty impressive tap list, so that was good. Service was OK, but not great (but hey, they were pretty busy). Food was OK as well... The beer "shop" area for carry out sales is a vintage PA beer rules mess. Stuff isn’t clearly marked and it is all through itself in a big snarl. Still, they have a pretty impressive selection. Prices (predictably) are very high... $3-4 per 12 oz bottle for most stuff, but you get a bit of a discount for carryout. If you’re in the area and have cash burning a hole in your pocket, I’m sure this place can help you out of your predicament.

This was a vibrant place that doesn’t look too big from the outside but is actually decently sized. It was packed full at the time I was there. Excellent selection of beers with a lot of rare ones, and they were for the most part reasonably priced. I didn’t buy any food but it looked pretty good. The employees were friendly and knew quite a lot about beer. Definitely a place that I will be coming back to.

a kind of a hobbit like low ceiling bar it is an old hole in the wall basically. but the beer colllection is quite respectable the place is pretty darn clean and the staff were all quite helpful, friendly and pleasant. the place snakes around and they have a fairly large cool room stocked with a pretty good amount of beer, about twelve wiresteel shelves full of cold beer. right behind in another long room they have a pretty decent collection of warm stuff with some stuff hanging out in the walkway. i thought i was getting fleeced on some bottles till the guy let me know that everything taken out receives a $1discount on the bottle. that made things fairly good as i got some hard to find bottles at $2 to $2.50 a bottle. wish i would have eaten there because i knew that i would have eaten the dogs because they smelled more that worthy! about a dozen or so quality taps hniging out by the counter.

My go-to store. It’s cramped and loud, but it has genuine charm and an intimate setting. Service can be fast or slow, often on the slow side. The selection is the best I’ve seen in Pittsburgh, definitely for imports: some de dolle, unibroue, liefman’s, ayinger, panil, southampton, bells, and loads of local stuff in victory, troegs, stoudts, and voodoo. I’ve only ever had their hot dogs, but they’re pretty good. Nice 20 taps. They’re prices aren’t great, but get $6 off with six to go, and they’re prices are actually probably below average for the best spots in town. My favorite part is probably that their hoard is stashed in the "beer cave," which is tucked away from the crowds, giving you room and time to browse the selection with no interruptions. A great bottle shop, probably Pittsburgh’s best, so definitely stop in.

Stopped here in the Summer of 2008 to buy beer to go. Decent selection. Did not end up seeing any Westy. There was a decent selection of some locals (Church Brew and East End), but not what Id hoped for (no limited Penn or East End 750s). Also, they were advertising Peche Mortel, but there was none available. The shelves were majorly disordered and the beer was split between the cooler and a cave. Prices seemed a nip high. But, definitely worth the stop.

Fantastic beer selection for Pittsburgh and one of my staples when I lived in the area. Food is average to above average depending on your palate for hot dogs, but beer is always great. Service is usually strong and the atmostphere on a Saturday afternoon cannot be beat for college football. A definite stop!
