| Kollie (12), , | | March 25, 2012 It’s a German place so always keep that in mind - expect lagers and wurst. The best part is the beergarten - on a warm sunny day there’s no better place to heft a Mass of Hefeweizen. Great views of the Mon! | | zach8270 (54), Henrietta, New York | | January 2, 2012 Went here for an early birthday party. Great atmosphere, attentive waitstaff, live accordion music and great and plentifully flowing beer. Lots of toasting it seems. The big German-style communal tables and really good food. The spaetzel and wiener schnitzel were really solid. All of the appetizers were great. Definitely try the sauerkraut balls and the potato pancakes. Parking garages within walking distance. Definitely go there. Have their four constant house beers plus a monthly seasonal. | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | November 7, 2011 What you’d expect at the Mills... an overdone, soulless money pit. Yes they have benches and bands with accordions, complete with costume. Food is mediocre as is the beer, tap list usually limited to 4-5 beers. It’s all overdone, I mean you can order a "shot-ski" which has five shots lined up on a wooden ski. And I got kicked out of here once, almost twice. That’s never happened to me in Germany or anywhere else in fact. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | October 7, 2011 Located overlooking a river in a fairly new commercial development, It looks like how I’d a imagine a German restaurant in Germany would look. They only have 5-6 things on tap with a very strict seasonal rotation. The beers range from Boring to decent. The food was solid but not ribsticking amazing. The prices were reasonable if you don’t factor the cost of parking your car in a parking garage. I can’t imagine coming back here unless there’s some event going on. | | FROTHINGSLOSH (48), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania | | July 26, 2011 A nice Germanic atmosphere. A huge place and generally very busy and loud. Decent food. Attentive service but not very knowledgeable about the beers. Prices are ok. An interesting diversion. | | lithy (156), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | July 10, 2011 Loud and crowded when busy, so in that respect I guess it is authentic. Would not be my favorite haunt for just sitting down to have a beer. The beers are solid if not outstanding. The food however was very good. A few too many toasts given by the accordion playing MC and altogether too many birthdays to announce for the people in attendance. I was halfway deaf and hoarse by the time I left. The building is very nice though. | | ChemDoc (12), West Virginia | | December 29, 2010 My favorite stop in Pittsburgh. The German fare is always great and it’s nice to take a break from over-the-top craft beer and just enjoy simple, well done, German bier. | | douglas88 (117), Salt Lake City, Utah | | December 24, 2010 A big old beer hall feel. Also sort of corporate place feeling. Five beers on tap, four regulars plus a different seasonal each month. Good German food. Good service and prices. A nice view of the river from the Beer Garden. A nice place. | | Beerman6686 (24), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | November 1, 2010 Large beer hall in Southside works in Pittsburgh. Beer selection is lacking, only serving the four flagship beers and one seasonal. Beer prices are somewhat cheap considering the quantity and the marketplace. Food is a bit pricey but it is excellent and you receive large portions. A good place to hang out with a large group of people, but not a great place to find good beer. | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | September 3, 2010 Third stop in Pittsburgh on our way to Michigan for RBSG. I can’t say that this place is not worth stopping in, and I’m not upset that I went here, but it’s about as close to a skip as one can come. Beerwise, not worth the time. The atmosphere is pretty nice though, big beer hall feel with a load of picnic table style seating. Seems like the absolute perfect place to gather around and say... watch a football game. Maybe a Steelers game, especially given that their offices and such are right down the street. But wait... there are no TVs here? Oh, nevermind then. It’s weird, this is pretty much the first bar/brewpub I’ve been in where I wanted there to be TVs. Usually I find them a distraction (though I’ll readily admit I watch them when they’re on). My wife ordered a slice of the black forest cake which she enjoyed, I got a pretzel with beer cheese that was a touch too salty. The beers were a waste of time. They have this great space, a large amount of brewing capacity, and they make sixteen beers. But you can only get five of them... four regalurs, and 12 seasonals which are on a schedule, so if you stop in once a year every June, you’ll get the same five beers... Terrible. Top make things worse, they’re mostly the same beers. Crappy pale lager type things which are watery and flavorless. Probably a novel place to bring non-beer friends, but not someplace I have any desire to go to again. |
