| nbutler11 (226), Phoenix, Arizona | | April 18, 2012 Nice location in downtown Pittsburgh. Large selection of Belgians and several craft offerings, but nothing with large reach. Decent pub fare and good service. Their happy hour is tough to beat. | dschilberg (5), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | December 18, 2011 Great selection of beer | | Beerman6686 (24), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | September 29, 2011 Ambiance is upscale bistro, couches and nice tables. Food is pretty good but fairly expensive for what it is. Draft selection is great for Belgian but overall so so, very expensive draft too unless it’s happy hour. Bottle list is huge and extensive, but again pretty pricey. Service is a bit disappointing too, seems like too little people helping out too many people. | | Mooncattie (40), Markham, Ontario | | September 10, 2011 Visited the Bistro on Friday August 26, 2011, and yes I think I’m happy to confirm the "Exceptional" label that this place has at time of writing. From the moment I arrived until I left, I was very, very impressed with the service, ambiance, and selection of fresh tasting beers. Important to note that their Happy Hour extends to 6:30pm (I’m guessing this is just weekdays, but it’s worth checking in advance to see), offering the 20 or so Belgian drafts for just half price. Well worth taking advantage of for some of the specialties that normally would run over $10 a glass. My only regret was to use up some of my drinking space with a glass of Spaten. I couldn’t help myself, as it’s very hard to find in Canada. It didn’t really fit in with the two Belgians I tried, both outstanding and very fresh. I started with an 8% cloudy Ename, a first for me, and something I could happily spend an evening with. Deliciously malty without being too overpoweringly strong. Our excellent waitress recommended the much-darker Bornem, again an 8% that was a total delight. I’m giving the Service almost full marks for a combination of the pleasant greeters at the front of the restaurant, the helpful bartenders, and the charming waitress with the wonderful advice: never ever order the "Mystery Brew", which at $4 a shot is obviously very tempting. I gather it tends to be, without her saying in so many words, the dusty staler stuff that isn’t moving (insert "Go Stalers!" pun here). I’d love to visit here again the next time I’m in Pittsburgh. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | August 1, 2011 Downtown Pittsburgh location convenient to PNC Park and Heinz field. Nice restoration of an old building. Really heavy emphasis on Belgian beers not so much on local or regional crafts. They had over 30 beers on tap plus a 4 beer sampler for $16 which included any of their drafts. After 10pm they have half priced appetizers. The service was pretty solid once the bartender realized I wasn’t looking for something specific just what I hadn’t yet had. They have a ridiculous amount of real glassware by the way. The prices were what you’d expect for being in the downtown area of a large city. | | TJay7481 (10), Altamonte Springs, Florida | | April 16, 2011 Very nice place with a great selection of Belgians. I was just a little disappointed with the selection of American craft beers. But if you are a fan of Belgians this is the place for you in Pittsburgh. | | flyer50 (42), Seattle, Washington | | November 20, 2010 This seems to be the best beer bar downtown.
Selection of Belgians on tap is impressive for a "heartland" bar. I enjoyed a freshly tapped Corsendonk Christmas Ale, went well with my excellent Belgian Burger, so-so frites, and decent spinach salad.
Selection would be rated higher if they would include a few more local craft beers.
Excellent, knowledgable bartenders. | | Nate (246), Indiana, Pennsylvania | | October 16, 2010 Had dinner and drinks. Similar to the other locations with a few menu differences. Same beer selection, with small ’cage’ of bottles to buy on the way out. Good service, reliable food. Nice downtown location with close parking and proximity to theaters and other sites. Very easy to get to for those visiting the convention center. | | JohnnyJ (94), San Diego, California | | June 25, 2010 Stumbled across this place walking around Pittsburgh. New Sharp Edge place. Bottle and tap selection worth both pretty good, but not outstanding. The food was different and good, but slightly skimpy on the portion size. Nice bartenders and patrons. One of the bar tenders was from SD, so that was cool. A "secret" tap handle for cheap pours, but the pricing overall was pretty expensive. One of the fancy, pricey beer bars. |
