| BelgianBeerGal (42), Dayton Area, Ohio | | November 11, 2010 Honestly surprised by this little place. Very nice selection especially the Bells and Founders lay outs. Pretty nice prices and you can get just about everything as a single. Nice workers that were helpful but not overbearing. They have a back shelf of "phase out" beers that are lower price but be careful about the dates on these. I’ll definitely stop again on my way to/from the airport. | | beastiefan2k (141), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | January 18, 2010 Small place north of the airport, so out of the way unless you are traveling up there. That has its perks. I have been here twice now. Its a small place but very clean and as pretty as a liquor store will get in KC. So nice wooden area, an aging room for wine. As far as beer its a clean set up but again small. This means the selection is always worse than the other bigger chain stores in KC. However, they often single out Bells, which you wont find in other stores. And they specialize in the better beers. So no case upon case of Blvd but they good beer is often available here when its is sold out everywhere else. Service is good, they are friendly and want to talk. They seem to have a knowledgeable wine guy. I would go here if you are looking for something special that is sold out everywhere else. Prices are usually even or a buck more than the major stores in KC. | | bblack99 (30), Kansas City, Missouri | | April 27, 2009 A little publicity never hurts! I live about 10 minutes from this little shop, but had never heard about it. I saw the signs on I-29 after a recent trip north of town and decided to stop by.
The shop feels like a living room, if your living room was jam-packed with liquor! A comfy couch and a wide variety of hard liquors frame the front of the store. Once you sneak through the narrow aisles, you’ll find a GREAT selection of single bottles. I’m a huge fan of this, since I don’t always want to pay for a six-pack of some super-beer that I may not like.
Selection is similar to that of many stores, but I saw a large number of bottles that I had only previously seen in six-packs (i.e. the whole line of Bell’s). This is a great shop, especially if you live on Barry Road or points north! | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | April 20, 2009 [ Updated August 25, 2009 ] Thanks for the heads up on this one Heemer, this is a nice little find up by the airport. I needed to fill out a couple of trades, and this place was perfect. Overall, the selection is less than most KC area bigger beer stores, but their selection of singles is by far the biggest and best I have seen in the metro area. Prices were not too outrageous either. For out of town folks, this is a nice option to pick up a few bottles when you are by the airport. When I was in, they had at least 10 Bells singled out, all of the current Blvd 12 oz, all of the current Schlafly, etc. Friendly staff, mentioned they were more than willing to bring in whatever I was looking for, in singles! | | heemer77 (205), Urbandale, Iowa | | January 19, 2009 [ Updated March 20, 2012 ] I take back my previous statement about the selection. If anything it has gotten smaller and the prices remain a little high. Not really worth your time unless you are near the airport and can’t to one of the good stores in KC. Old rating follows. I stopped in here because of their large signs on I-29. I had been through Platte City many times, but did not know about this store. They have a compact, but quality beer selection that has most of what the large KCMO stores carry. This includes Bells and other goodies. they have a large selection of singles to buy. I was able to get a couple of new ones here, plus I know I will return for some favorites. While not superior to the large KC stores, it might be worth a look while on the way to Weston or elsewhere while driving I-29. |
