2010-06. Visited late on a Tuesday evening last June, this is the upstairs of a building in town that is dark and lamp-lit and full of books and crannies. The tables are covered in tons of photos underneath a sheet of glass, which makes for interesting finds. We tried a few halves of local brews, all in good shape and solid. I recall it being a long day, which either meant I was tired or just felt like things were taking forever to wrap up. (We had wanted to go to the Water Street Brewing place down the road but it had just closed for eviction four days before!) We ate a tasty bowl of clam chowder and a the Avocado Bacon Cheddar Chicken Melt, both were delicious. Good experience overall.

2010-06. Recommended on TripAdvisor, we stopped in after discovering that Water St. had gone out of business. Doesn’t look like much at the door, but once you make your way upstairs it is very nice. Cool leather booths, dark walls, books on the shelf. Business cards and various whatsits under glass on the table. Both funky and classy - it feels like a place for adults and not at all touristy. Gorgeous view from the patio, but we opt for inside as it is cold. Clam chowder is (intentionally) thin but delicious. Bacon chicken avocado melt is delicious, but a touch spicier than my own mild tastes. Server is fast and friendly, splits our sandwich order for us realizing we were planning to share. ($1 charge, presumably covers more salad). She gave me a small taste of a local wine that I wanted to try but wasn’t up for a whole glass. Beer list was not extensive but was pretty decent, we opted for two beers from Port Townsend. Quite enjoyed it, would go back if in town again.

Pretty normal place for the area, decent selection but not as good as Peaks in Port Angeles. Good view of the ocean.

Gorgeous setting with the funky up-the-stiars access MJames describes. Not a huge beer selection, but good; wine selection’s better. Good food, decent service, amazing deck, spectacular view. If you’re road tripping or, better yet, in town, you have to stop here. Best food in town is Fins, I think, but this is a better repeat visit.

This bar is located just down from Water Street Brewing. You enter on the road and go up to the third floor on an old set of stairs. The pub is located at the back of the 3rd floor, and overlooks the harbor with a fantastic view. We visited on a weekday night after getting some food and beer elsewhere in town, and it was nice to sit outside, three stories up and watch the Puget Sound disappear into the night. The beer selection is decent: a lot of local micros such as Mac & Jack’s African Amber, Port Townsend Scotch Ale, Boundary Bay (I think) and others. Overall it was very dark inside, but it had a comfortable British pub feel, and we got a kick out of the owner’s dog making the rounds and saying hello to everyone.
