| zizzybalubba (68), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | May 17, 2012 APEX is what I would call a neighborhood bar. While it is in a business district it is close to many houses and I imagine many of its customers are within walking distance. But even if you are not within walking distance this is worth the trek no matter how far. The entrance is an outdoor area with plenty of seating. This leads into a large indoor bar area, and what a bar it is! There are at least 50 beers on tap, each listed alphabetically on 2 large flat screen TVs. The bartender working when I visited was not only very friendly but effortlessly answered questions that other patrons had regarding their selections. If for some reason you could not find anything on tap to your liking there were several large refrigerators behind the bar with a stellar lineup of beers, many of which are now retired. If there was food I did not try it. Of the beer bars I have visited this is at or near the top of the list of my favorites. | | Dixonian (79), Dallas, Texas | | May 2, 2012 Decent sized bar with tons of patio space out front. Wish I had known it was cash only before going as it limited me to only one beer. Bartender was friendly and knew a bit about beer. Nice mix of local and other brews on tap. | | notalush (256), Denver, Colorado | | December 17, 2011 Came here after a visit to Beer Mongers - the vibe is quite the opposite of that spot - very large interior and huge patio out front - a few pinball machines up front - very cold, "urban" decor, very much geared towards yuppies and hipsters - not comfortable inside at all - friendly but semi-pretentious staff when I was in - some twenty something dude with pomaded hair tending bar kept futzing with his iPhone - impressive draft list - much like Bailey’s, it is displayed on a large TV screen behind the bar - fair prices - a mixed bag, really - the selection is great, but the ambiance kills it for me. | | raphael (26), Portland, Oregon | | December 4, 2011 The outdoor space is at least equal to the indoor. Love posting the tap list on tv screens. Wide ranging selection, knowledgeable beer-tenders. No food right there but some good things real close by you can bring over. | | Matts_Property (27), Vancouver, British Columbia | | November 20, 2011 Such a great find! Amazing selection, amazing service, amazing value. Amazing. A nice intimate venue with a surprisingly large variety of beer on tap and a great selection of bottles too. Nothing bad to say. | jleblanc (5), , Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | November 15, 2011 apex was one of my finals spots on my PDX voyage. nice dark industrial style bar with a massive LCD tap list featuring a little less than 50 taps. fair prices, and great tap list. some people equate this place to toronado, i think i would almost agree, the bottle list at this place blows toronado out of the water, and all their beers are available for take out. walked home happily with a 3 litre of adam. | | mcberko (59), Vancouver, British Columbia | | November 14, 2011 This gets my vote for best pub in Portland. 50 taps which are updated live on the website. My stop was right after 40 wood-aged beers were tapped, all of which were still available. I felt like a kid in a candy shop with all the amazing beers available. Prices are ridiculously low, especially since they give you the option of ordering in 12, 6 or 3 oz. pours. Highlights were Blind Pig IPA, Djævlebryg Gudeløs, and Hopworks Brouwer’s Imperial Stout. | | soul11man (54), Portland, Oregon | | August 14, 2011 Love the bike parking and plenty of outdoor seating. The "beer screen" is an awesome way to present all the great beers these guys bring in. The fact that there was just one guy serving beer was a bit of a downside. There was just one awkward line at the bar for everyone to replenish their glasses. Wait service outside would be a great improvement. Maybe they have this at other times. I will definitely go back so we’ll see. I didn’t try the food if they had any. | | Alphadelic (48), Portland, Oregon | | June 23, 2011 I’ve had really varying service here. One really nice bearded chap who was a lively conversationalist but a little undereducated when it came to the beer. A tall, well groomed chap who was excellent in every way. And a bit if a snotty bitch who had no time for anyone even though we were the only customers. The range is awesome. They ALWAYS have Pliny the Elder if you ask (it’s not on the screen) the pricing is reasonable I guess but you may get stung for a couple of things. It’s cash only here and the ATM charges $3 so come prepared. | | dchmela (96), Orlando, Florida | | March 25, 2011 Very clean, neat looking place. Nice long bar with a huge LCD screen with all of there tap beers listed. Good selection and knowledgeable staff, plus cool pinball machines made this a win. |
