(Visited 05/2013): McMenamins St. John’s Theater is located on Ivanhoe and N Richmond in the St. John’s area of north Portland. There are some small lots and street parking nearby but the area is very busy.

The domed building is from the early 1900’s and was originally an exhibit hall. Now there is a small bar and seating area, and a plushly decorated screening room. The bar has an eclectic array of hanging lights and signage. The theater has different types of seating and is in the domed room which is a nice look. I don’t think the building has A/C though so it can get hot.

As with most McMenamins locations, the beer selection consists of a few flagship brews along with a couple unique to the location among the 6 taps. Mostly standard styles like IPA, ESB and Kölsch. Samples of all are available. The beers are all pretty average.

Service for drinks and food at the bar was good, and ordered items are brought in to the theater during the movie.

The menu includes burgers, wraps and the like. Our meals were decent.

Overall this is a cool historic building to catch a movie in a brewpub setting despite the beers not being great.

This is a great atmospheric place to have a beer. Right now, Louis Armstrong is playing in the dimly lit space which is filled with odd art, books, iron work and light. Added bonus is that it is in St. John’s (PDX)

Great place to watch a movie while eating a burger & drinking a beer. Cheers!
