HopTsing (9), Sandston, Virginia does not count - explanation | | March 3, 2012 Extensive bottlee beer list and great food. Has a out door garten with parking on the street. Very worth the trip if you are in Portsmouth. | | hubrew22 (10), Virginia | | March 2, 2012 Quality beers with some fine food. Can get a bit cramped in the back bar, however. | | ekiel (10), , | | February 5, 2012 Food is great and the prices are great also. Beer selection is good but not much of a rotation. | | smegworm (10), Alabama | | February 4, 2012 Decent Beer selection, great food | | zizzybalubba (68), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | May 24, 2010 The Bier Garden is a German restaurant in downtown Portsmouth with a rather extensive beer menu. The food is good to excellent from what I have had. I have found that the waitstaff is very knowledgeable about the beers they have. I have one annoyance, however, that continues to bother me everytime I visit The Bier Garden. For some reason this place never has enough beer menus. Instead they would rather recommend a beer for you and never give you a chance to view their extensive beer list. Eventually you may be able to track down a beer menu but it doesn’t seem like it should be so damn difficult to have enough beer menus at a place called THE BIER GARDEN. | | ebmalon (22), Georgia | | March 27, 2010 Friends brought us to The Bier Garden while we were visiting Norfolk. Great beer selection. The resto was packed so we sat in the bar. My husband is a German National and ended up striking up a conversation with the owner who in turn served us during our visit. Again, the beer selection was great. Food was nothing to write home about, but definately go for beer and atmosphere. | avantcoreVB (4), Virginia Beach, Virginia does not count - explanation | | February 18, 2010 A small bar in the back with a large restaurant. I sat in the bar with a couple friends so I didn’t have a chance to taste the food. Started the night off with a Dogfish Head 120 which made me a happy man. An excellent selection and the bar staff knew their beers, their pours, and their jokes. An excellent place and a step closer towards finding an exceptional Hampton Roads beer bar. Keep up the great work! | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | January 17, 2010 Large place, bar at the back. Restaurant in the front specializes in German food, which is tasty and genuine. Beer list is very large, probably the best in the area. Restaurant staff know nothing about beers or how to serve them, but the bar staff may be better, I haven’t tried it. Restaurant is, miraculously, non-smoking. Worth trying. | | nearbeer (144), Knoxville, Tennessee | | July 2, 2009 [ Updated October 30, 2010 ] Nice German restaurant in historic downtown, with separate bar and bier garden area. Food was about as good as a German restaurant in the US gets. Beer selection was great. Service pretty good too. | | Radek Kliber (72), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Poland | | June 17, 2009 Nice place in Portsmouth. Had few bottles there and quickly made few friends there. Friendly with good line up of German beers (and not only) |
