| boxofrane (16), pottstown, Pennsylvania | | October 10, 2011 This place is my spot in Pottstown. Outstanding selection. Previously, I drove to Shangys. Now, I have a pretty similar amount of choice down the street. My only recommendation would be to post prices for all beer as i’d try something reasonably priced without ever having heard of it. | | fata2683 (125), Tucson, Arizona | | July 28, 2010 [ Updated October 7, 2010 ] In a state with ridiculous beer laws this place does it right. Bill helped my father and I by showing us around the store and some stuff in their office. The selection here in mind blowing. Tons of California, Northeast, and Belgian’s and that’s just the start. Service is personal and friendly and they even helped us load the car up! Can’t say enough about this place, truly a GREAT beer experience. Keep up the good work Bill and staff! | | TreborWhip (19), Reading, Pennsylvania | | July 27, 2010 [ Updated October 7, 2010 ] Large inventory of beers from all over the world. You will find things here that you won’t find at most distributors and the prices are reasonable. You get what you pay for. We met, Bill, who presented us with a couple of new cases of rare ales that he just received. He was very knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. I simply can’t say enough good things about him and Frank Smith Beverages. I will travel the extra miles whenever I want to purchase quality ales at fair prices. Now, if we could only get Pennsylvania to get out of the doldrums and change their archaic laws to allow sales of singles. Thank you, Bill, for spending time to talk "beer" with my son and I. We’ll be back!!!!! | drummerdude (1), New Jersey does not count - explanation | | March 14, 2010 Unbelievable selection here!! I don’t know what that other idiot was talking about, but the prices here are the best!! The best Jerry, the best!!
Keep up the good work! I’ll be back every week!! | | Damico (13), Royersford, Pennsylvania | | March 14, 2010 The big warehouse has a beautiful aisle of Big Belgian cases ready tempting your palate as you walk by. The selection is phenomenal, especially considering the laws in Pennsylvania placing these silly limitations on alcohol sales. They put forth effort into getting a hold of the rare and limited edition brews available. The value is the best I’ve ever seen ever, especially compared to other places around like in Limerick and Norristown. The only better place to get the Dieu du Ciel is Canada. The service is comfortable, convenient, and friendly. The crew makes you feel loved, even if you can’t figure out how old Todd is. Bill’s experiences with his own set of children has prepared him for Greg and the boys to run that place like a well-oiled machine whether he’s there to help, or skips out early to get a good workout! I will no longer shop for beer anywhere else in the state as long as this place continues to offer the value service, and tastings they do so well. | noob05 (2), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | January 17, 2010 So like I said in my last review I am new to the area and stopped in to check out the selection. They had a lot of beer but the price was quite a bit higher from another beer distributor I was recently in so I went elsewhere. | | obxdude10 (99), Pottstown, Pennsylvania | | October 26, 2009 For as long as I’ve lived in Pottstown, I have never really ventured into Frank Smith’s. The other night I was over toward that way for dinner, and expecting some company afterward for some drinks, I stopped by for a couple of cases. The atmosphere is typical PA distributor, with a warehouse-type of feel and cases of beer organized and stocked in strategic, pallet-driven piles. The selection was pretty good. They have a host of cases from all over the world, but mostly from the US. They carry the usual PA micros, from Victory to Sly Fox, and a decent selection of DFH and others from the around the area. They have plenty of imports, too. I was really disappointed in the prices and value. I paid over $80 for a case of Guinness and a case of DFH Raison. I can get those same two cases at Beer Mart in Reading for least $10 cheaper. I prefer shopping at Beer Mart. I can hit them up on my way home from work and save a whole lot of money. But in a pinch, I’ll stop by here. | | DocLock (121), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania | | February 25, 2009 [ Updated February 9, 2012 ] Decent ambience, and a decent selection here. I found a case of the Zappa beers here, plus locals and some relative rarities. The service was very good, and prices were reasonable.
Update as of late August 2009. I went back in here and wow, was i impressed. The selection here has increased an amazing amount, with tons of rarities and local stuff. A great guy named greg helped me out and we talked beer for awhile, and it is obvious to me that this guy knows his beer and is a real friend to the beer community. My rating gets kicked from a 78 to a 96. One of the top 3 beer distributors I have seen. Awesome place.
Update 09-Feb-2012: This place continues to gain selection, get rarities, and the prices are second to none. Only Wegman’s can even come close to the prices here. Toss in the cigars, gift sets, snacks, and periodic promos, and Frank Smith’s earns my second perfecto robusto score for a place. Bill and Todd are true beer connoisseurs and friends to the beer community, and their committment to excellence shows. I’d live here if I could. | gcare02 (1), , Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | October 21, 2008 The best selection in pottstown area. You will find all your micro’s, seasonals, rare beers, a very nice selection of belgian’s, and other imports here. Cheapest prices in town! |
