| j12601 (45), Poughkeepsie, New York | | October 11, 2008 A small place right across from the Vassar campus, the Beechtree is a favorite local hangout with a good mix of local regulars and Vassar students in for dinner.
The bar generally has a wide representation of beers aiming to hit a number of styles and locations. My visit yesterday saw their taps containing a German Octoberfest, Dunkel Weizen, British ESB, Guiness, a pumpkin ale, an American IPA, a strong ale, and a hoppy lager. They typically have a cask conditioned ale as well and I think they have a good offering of bottles, though with all of their taps, I’ve never had to resort to a bottle there.
The food is pretty solid, and they have 10 tables (about 6 2 person, 4 4 person), and the service is fairly brisk but not rushed. | rds (3), does not count - explanation | | September 11, 2008 Been here twice when visiting daughter at Vassar. Great variety of taps and bottles, very pleasant ambience and a good selection of well-prepared dishes. | cdog3 (3), does not count - explanation | | June 20, 2008 If you are in Poughkeepsie New York and want craft brewed beer you have very few choices. Of all of those choices this one is the best. Right across the street from Vassar College, it is a small place with excellent food and 10 taps that always pour pretty decent beer. No macro American Lagers on these taps. They also have a very nice bottle selection and an occasional cask ale. The staff is generally pretty good with two bartenders that stand out. If you are in town it is definitely worth the stop. |
