| nador (10), Praha, | | February 21, 2012 This place should be seen at least once by every beer lover or people interested in Czech pub history. Is one of the few traditional hospodas left in the Old Town and stubbornly defends its traditions. This means that foreigners, tourists or in general non-stamgasts are not particularly welcome. Nothing too bad, but don´t expect the waiters pushing people away from a table for your group of 15 to squeeze in. No way. However, the Plzen pivo is good and crispy and it´s worth going there, possibly in a not-so-busy time (between 3om and 5pm for example) just to sit close to where the great Hrabal drank and wrote. | | YULbier (209), Brno, Czech Republic | | January 24, 2012 Ambiance: Loud, smoky and fun. Service: Rude (with non-regulars) but efficient. Selection: Tank Urquell uniquely, but what a beer!. Food: Didn’t eat but supposedly they have invented the "pivni syr" (beer cheese). Value: Normal price for Prague, which means f-ing cheap for a North American. Overall: Now that it’s crossed off my list, neeeext. | | Cuso (82), Bratislava, Slovak Republic | | October 20, 2011 Traditional place for beer in center of town. It’s hard to get place in evening or late afternoon, but it’s worth to visit the place. Enjoy he atmosphere. In paste time I visited quite often Prague and it was must to visit the place with my colleagues. | | Camons (67), Hasselager, Denmark | | August 2, 2011 Beerbar in the center turist area of Prague, filled with a mix of locals and turists. Very crowded at 18.00 a monday afternoon, lots of noise and lots of smoke. Hard to give a rating for selection, since the only carry one beer ( Pilsner Urquell ) wich on the other hand is excellent. Ill proberly go agian to have a glass or to when back in Prague, but to smoky and noisy to be a really pleasent place to hang out for a drink. | | craftycarl21 (59), Washington, Washington DC | | July 12, 2011 Similar to U Hrocha but bigger and much noisier. Tons of locals and fresh Urquell, central location between the Charles Bridge and Old Town Square. That’s really about all you need to know. | | Dedollewaitor (207), Odense, Denmark | | April 25, 2011 Fresh Tank Urquell (Not the unfiltered yeast version) Large and noisy place in the afternoon. Prague 1 - centrally located. Lots of locals. Crowded and smokey . . | | gunnar (178), Sandnes, Norway | | March 30, 2011 Visited first time in 2001. Better go here as early as you can, this place fills up very quick. Could be difficult to find a seat, but if you ask kindly, they are most likelly to offer you a seat on their bench. This place haven´t changed much since my first visit, go there, sit & observe. Drink the fresh Urquell-enjoy | | pivnizub (379), Bochum, Porúří, Germany | | March 21, 2011 Old fashioned, very traditional tavern in the centre of Old Town (Stare Město), serving a very well kept Pilsner Urquell; in the bad old days of socialism the "Golden Tiger" was the place to get the best Urquell (made in the old way) i n town ! Gets often very noisy and smokey in the evenings, but nevertheless a gem in the touristy heart of town. Be sure to wait in the queue at 14.30, an empty place will be hard to find ! Here was the favourite place of the famous czech author Bohumil Hrabal ("Closely watched trains"), here he drank with Bill Clinton, Vaclav Havel and Madeleine Albright..... | | Tim Webb (106), Cambridge, England | | March 21, 2011 [ Updated January 1, 2012 ] This is not a chain bar or a concept pub or a tickers’ den it is a piece of living history. Full from the time it opens at 16.00, mainly with old Czech guys and young guys in active training to become old Czech guys. Unpolluted by music or silence, surfing a contiuous wave of conversation. And smoke. And there are no beers except the most tolerable surviving form of Pilsner Urquell. Watch and absorb. Bill and Hil drank here. |
