| VT (16), Quebec City, Quebec | | April 23, 2012 Nice place. The inside reminded me of Le Corsaire a lot, only I could hear myself thinking inside the Bateau, mostly because the decibels were not ripping the insides of my ears. Great, wide selection of beers for quite a reasonable price. I’ve been there only once, thus far, but I am definitely going back very soon. | | JulienHuxley (64), Trois-Rivieres, Quebec | | August 3, 2011 The absolute definition of a "hole in the wall" in my experience, I have not been to a place that matches that description more than this one. Do not be discouraged by the lack of an outdoor sign (remember the door number well though), the shady stairs you will have to climb to get to the second floor, or the heavy black curtain you may have to move to enter, what is inside is well worth all of it. If you want to drink in one of the best beer bars in the city that is. It even feels like you’re inside a boat. This place has a nice selection of 8 quebec micros on tap, including Charlevoix and Dieu du Ciel on a semi-permanent basis. It also has about 50 bottled beers, including 30 or so classic belgians for slightly cheaper than what they cost down the road at Pub St-Alexandre. Selection varies quite a bit, the best way to stay updated is to join the facebook page where the taplist and opening hours are updated daily. Prices aren’t cheap per se, but reasonable. The owner/barman is quite friendly and passionate about beer. Another plus is it’s location, on St-Jean close to the major hotels in the downtown/carré d’Youville area (700m from the Hilton, 1 km from Château Laurier). No food or patio though. |
