This place may not be as well versed beer wise as say Tyler’s or Flying Saucer, but it makes up for it with value. Every Wednesday they tap a rare keg, and only charge $3-$3.50 per pint of it, which is an incredible deal. Recently, they offered Dogfish Head Burton Baton and Palo Santo Marrone, and Brother Theolonious. They also have many seasonal offerings, and their tapes seem to change once every 6-8 weeks as a result. Of note are their beer flights as well (6 beers from their taps), which are usually on special on Wednesdays. The place is never too crowded, but never too desolate, so right mix in that regard. Service has always been outstanding, but we have always had it at the bar for what that is worth. Food was good, though we only had the cheesesteaks, which are seriously the best in the area in my opinion. I hear the wings are good as well.

Woody’s is your basic sports bar with multiple TVs a-blaring, many blockheaded frat boys a-cursing and many good beers a pouring. Not bad and the incredible prices - which, for me, were very reasonable. Woody’s has a great location amid Raleigh’s City Market and several shaky steps away from the site of the annual World Beer Festiva - which brought me to town. Of course, I suspect it a popular venue throughout the Raleigh Beer Year. It is large, dark and loud; the restrooms are reached through a circuituous maze that takes one through the dining area and past the kitchen. The bar, however, is a large area and one is never too tightly packed. And the beer selection was very decent (not like the one at Flying Saucer, but still respectable). Many interesting local brews. Having sampled many at WBF gave me the chance to try them in a plastic cup. All in all, a comfortable place to quaff a few.

Food is fairly good. Scene is interesting mix of professional downtown lawyers and the people they represent/prosecute. Some seasonal local beers on tap, decent selection of nationionally recognized good beers on tap and some very good beers in the bottle. I play trivia on tuesdays (sometimes also Thursdays) at 6:30pm. All in all, a great place. Even with heavy smoke.
