| tia (33), Sandston, Virginia | | January 19, 2012 Can’t believe I haven’t rated this. Pop in here a lot after work. More wine than beer but they have a small but good singles selection. A bit pricey, but hey, rent in Carytown... They usually have at least one beer out to taste and regular tastings with a few beers. Nice and open space but not fussy. Nice and open staff that’s not fussy either. And cheese!
| | downender (196), Bristol, England | | December 17, 2011 Visited twice in November 2011. The thing that stood out was the service. On both occasions staff talked me though the range of American beers and helped pick a broad selection of styles from various breweries including Bells, Founders, Green Flash and Weyermann. They also provided a bottle opener after I realised I had foolishly left mine at home. The beers proved of good quality and the prices seemed pretty good, from my limited experience of buying in the USA. Should I ever return to Richmond, I would definitely visit here again. | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | June 8, 2009 A little tough to get to as its on a busy one way street, but not too bad. I found parking to be easy but I went on a Sunday. The place is very small, though pleasant, and they are expanding. Small but spirited selection with nice options, though they are limited and there isn’t much you won’t find elsewhere. I did get pick up a Croatian tick. They have a mix and match option and a few chilled selections. Nice people. I’d hit other places first but if you got the time, it’s worth a stop. | | Butters (164), Richmond, Virginia | | February 9, 2008 Now the only beer store in Carytown. Fortunately the nice guy (Dave?) from Carytown Wine and Beer is now working there, and he is a valuable addition to the already friendly staff. The place is definitely too small to house the selection that would make it a more sought after destination. In my opinion, they should have moved into the Carytown Wine and Beer location when it closed. But a worthwile stop if you are already in the area. | | JCB (120), Durham, North Carolina | | January 22, 2008 A nice little place down the street from the soon-to-be-closed Carytown. A tiny sliver of a wine shop, with some decent food and beer selections. A circular rack of Belgian 750s in the middle, a four-sided case with singles (12 and 22oz) to the side, ranging from decent imports to quality domestic micros (Bells, Victory, Stone, etc.). Room is really cool, but way too small. Service is always awesome. | | obguthr (19), Poquoson, Virginia | | June 9, 2007 Richmond tour Stop 3: This was a small shop with an emphasis on wines. The staff was friendly, but the brew selection was a little disappointing. There were plenty of singles, but I found nothing terribly rare. There were a few seasonals that other stores advertise having, but seldom do. They also offer gourmet foods. I bought nothing. | | argo0 (184), Washington DC | | September 9, 2006 A relatively small but high quality beer selection in this boutique store. Very nice staff -- one even gave me a sake recommendation. A couple of blocks from Carytown Wine & Beer, and definitely worth stopping by while you’re in the neighborhood. | thehinge (7), Wilmington, Delaware does not count - explanation | | September 2, 2006 This is a pretty nice place. So small a couple of people could run it....and did the day I was there. Stormy weekday at 11 in the morning. Nice atmosphere. Staff was more than willing to answer questions. Good selection. Cool neighborhood, too. Choose a sunny day and walk down Cary....stop and buy some beers. | | Numenor (19), Richmond, Virginia | | August 6, 2006 A nice place in Carrytown to get some unique beers that on occasion aren’t at other locations. Tastings are every Sunday with usually 4 or 5 beers up for grabs. Nice staff with a good amount of knowledge. | GreenDragon (9), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | February 20, 2006 Typical Carytown shop with good ambience and friendly service. Decent selction with lots of singles. |
