UPDATE: from 2013.05.03. moved to Peldu iela 19 I was quite surprised, that this place wasn’t at ReteBeers’s place list. Although it’s quite understandable - despite located at the Old Town (Smilšu 16), its not on usual tourist route and without shining logo outside. Quite opposite - it’s at the basement and not so easy to find, even knowing the address (except summertime, when there is patio outside). Therefore, crowd consist mostly from locals. I guess, that is their goal, because its ’’traditional Latvian tavern’’ ... If you want to tray some Latvian beer, traditional food and atmosphere, its the best place in Latvia - at best days they have 14-16 beers on tap. Almost all local breweries are presented, except Bralis, Užava, Cēsu and Piebalgas. Food is good, may be little overpriced, but OK for OldTown and cheaper than in AleHouse, for example. Only downside - during weekends / peek ours, its overcrowded. Common place, to go and grab some beer with friends. During summertime, there is also small inner yard opened.

A kind of folk music club in the old town, down in a cellar. Serves good food, plays Latvian folk music, and has a pretty good selection of Latvian micros. Perhaps the best place to drink beer in Riga, unless you came here to drink Mikkeller. (Nothing wrong with Mikkeller, but you don’t need to go to Riga for it.)

On tap local brews. Mostly like traditional meed. Atmosphere is loud and young one. Often there is some folk music performances. So nice place to have an evening @ and try some micro local brews like Madonas, Biíeru, Iďěuciema, Brenguďu, Valmiermuiţas.
