| theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | August 18, 2010 Visited on the way home from the airport one night. This is a very odd store, overall, just a weird variety of products available for sale. The beer department itself was quite large, much larger than I was expecting. Much of this was macro, but they did have several coolers and shelves of micro, craft and import. You have to wander around a bit, as there really is no discernible organization. I didn’t see anyone working the area, so really a no-service sort of setup. All in all, I liked the place - it’s like being on a scavenger hunt. A place for locals to put in their rotation, and not a terrible choice for out of towners who are driving from the airport into downtown or the south side of the city. | | heemer77 (205), Urbandale, Iowa | | May 15, 2009 Been here a few times now. Solid selection, but you are certainly not going to find much you can’t find in the other big KC stores. I like their prices. The layout takes a little while to browse as it is by brand and fairly spread out. A couple of times I went, I talked to an employee and she was knowledgeable about the products, especially the new releases. Also, this is a good place for all things tobacco, both for price and selection. Worth a visit if in the area but probably my second favorite place on the north side of KC after Gomers north. | | bblack99 (30), Kansas City, Missouri | | April 27, 2009 Don’t let the mediocre score fool you, Red X is a wonderful store. Unfortunately, you get the feel of a grocery or hardware store...because you’re inside a grocery/liquor/hardware store!
On the other hand, the sheer size of Red X offers a huge variety of liquors, with a separate aisle for each variation of spirit, and half a dozen aisles of beer.
All of the usual suspects are here, but Red X carries a large number of imports (German, Belgian, Czech, Asian, you name it) as well as one of the best selections of Midwestern and Colorado brews. |
