Stunmai (2), does not count - explanation | | March 8, 2012 The food is incredibly over priced and I found scotch-tape in my pizza with my friends. The beer selection is good, but its not worth the wait or paying double what other bars down the street charge for the same drink. | ATTWNone (6), , does not count - explanation | | January 31, 2012 Great beer selection including a number of West Coast offerings rarely found in Upstate NY. Prices are a bit high - $7 for an 11 oz. glass of Firestone Walker Double Jack - but more of the standard selections are reasonable priced. Food is average - I’d really just go there for the beer. | | BlackIPA (15), Rochester, New York | | December 18, 2010 This is a great place for craft beer. I counted over 150 taps last time I was there. Many very average and popular beers, but at least they did not have and Miller or Coors on tap. There’s something to be said for that. Last time I was there I enjoyed Great Lakes Nosferatu and Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. Often they have DFH 120 or WWS available. It seems like Ruination is always on tap. The food is reasonably priced and delicious. Atmosphere is mostly college kids and a few beer snobs. This is my favorite bar. | LTS (3), West Henrietta, New York does not count - explanation | | February 25, 2010 MacGregor’s is good for one thing, beer selection. Of course along with a ton of taps comes the need to clean the lines, something I feel they don’t do regularly enough.
The food is sub-par and overpriced. It was good many moons ago but the place has gone downhill in the wake of expansion.
Service is god awful. Bartenders walk by you repeatedly and have trouble managing the bar (unless you know them). They are slow and often times you are sitting around waiting for a beer (unacceptable). Wait staff is not much better and of course they are subjected to the bartending delays as well.
It’s loud, REAL loud. So you can expect to do a lot of yelling if you want a conversation. Of course turning up the stereo just escalates the problem.
In general the prices are higher than average for the quality they present. I could accept some of the pricing if the service were better and the beer lines were cleaner but not for service they provide.
I avoid it. | | DeadGirl (76), La Jolla, California | | October 12, 2009 Huge tap selection, but if I was only drinking beer there I would try maybe three and move on. Great food (try the beef nachos), but there are other places to enjoy the football game that have big screens and not the little ones they hoist up in the corner. Props for the 100+ beers on tap though, and while most of that selection may not be memorable, MacGregors at least isn’t offensive to beer culture. #12 on 12102009 DG. | | DaSilky1 (66), San Diego, California | | September 6, 2009 I went to the one in Penfield/Webster...Selection was decent...the layout of the place was not bad. The bartender was a very nice fellow...it was pretty dead on the day I went, but shit...this was quasi-walking distance to where i grew up, too bad this place didnt exist and/or the drinking age wasn’t 10 back in the day, or I would have hit this place up more often. Have or haven’t been to the other location(s)...at least, i have no memory of them. Decent, but somewhat style-less and boring. | | KyotoLefty (286), Kyoto, Japan | | September 3, 2009 Biggest selection of taps I’ve ever had access to. Beers were all in fine condition, though served a bit too cold by disinterested wait staff. Food is tasty but not at all matched to the beers--that would be nice. They had lots of big, interesting beers, though, which were great, several Imp Stouts and BWs served in little glasses rather cheaply. I would certainly go back whenever I had the chance and deal with the bad service. | ZedOmega (5), Rochester, New York does not count - explanation | | May 28, 2008 [ Updated May 29, 2008 ] I’ve only been once, but I wasn’t happy with any part of my experience. The huge draft selection was really just a bunch of beer from only a few breweries. Everything they offer is readily available in plenty of other places in town. Nothing unique, nothing to make me say WOW, I’d love to try that one.” Food was of the pre-frozen deep fried variety. Nothing tasted as if it were actually made fresh on premises. The table staff knew nothing about beer at all. Clearly it’s the kind of place that would be great if I were still in college and hadn’t developed any discerning tastes, but thankfully I left that world behind a long time ago. I’m sure the nearby RIT kids will keep the place packed and successful for many years to come. | ddenomme (4), Mississauga, Ontario does not count - explanation | | May 10, 2008 Fun, and a good selection. Completely unpretentious. | | blipp (68), Newark, New Jersey | | April 10, 2008 Huge number of taps, many I had never had and some I had never heard of. Food is a little bit more than your average bar food. Pretty crowded, but it was Friday evening so that was expected. I went looking for their house beers brewed by Southern Tier, only to find out that they no longer had them on tap. That was kind of a bummer, but the rest of the stuff they had on tap made me get over it real quick. |
