greghands (5), does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2012 Great selection for a county controlled area but a bit expensive. Seems to always smell like old french fry grease. Love that you can enjoy a beverage while you shop. | | dbarnold (11), Bethesda, Maryland | | July 27, 2011 Here’s the deal with this place...they have a good beer selection, kickass sandwiches, and it’s easy to get to. The bad side...to go beers cost a ton, craft drafts are pretty high. The best thing to do there is grab a groupon or, and this is really the best thing to do, get there on Thursday night when there’s no corking fee for bottles. You can get out of the house, have a couple good craft beers at 2-4 bucks a piece. That is a sweet deal. | | Lubiere (349), Ottawa, Ontario | | June 8, 2011 A nice deli meets beer store in a nondescript Rockvillle, MD strip mall. The selection is decent, prices a tad high, but singles available, a few taps for those who want to grab a pint, and Italian style sandwich. Next door is Urban BBQ, a great BBQ joint for those close to the Twinbrook Metro. Visited Sept 2010. | | JDBaker11058 (22), Maryland | | April 10, 2011 Small place. Selection is decent, but won’t knock your socks off. Prices are a little higher than average. What I like about this place: taps on site--have a pint while you browse; the food is pretty good--I recommend the brie and ham sandwich with maple syrup, it’s ridiculous; the staff is super friendly, conversational, and knowledgeable, and they are happy to break a sixer for you if you just want to take a single; finally, you can sign up for a very handy email newsletter that keeps you posted on new arrivals and rarities, and in-store events like tastings. Very enjoyable. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | March 14, 2011 Smallish place with a lot of beer, including a bunch of interesting stuff. 3 taps when I visited, a handful of tables, deli sandwiches. Nice BBQ place next door. Could make an afternoon of this place very easily. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Prices are very high, even considering the area. | | MikeF (205), Cleveland, Ohio | | January 28, 2011 Kind of an interesting shop. Lots of great beers, relatively speaking. Prices are high --- this is more regional than anything else, however. They have a number of refrigerators of beer as well as a small bar where they have a couple of beers on draft for consumption on premise. Overall, worth the stop if you also swing by Urban BBQ next door (which is very good). | | KUEric (106), Washington, Washington DC | | December 27, 2010 Great service, good selection, iffy location pretty much sums up this store imo.
The staff the 2-3 times I’ve been in have been more than helpful, downright chatty and cordial in fact. They often have a beer available for tasting as well. Having a tap in a ’store’ is pretty cool as well, nice intersting touch and get an an additional point for ambiance than the behind a stripmall location really warrents.
They opened after I lived a few blocks away ... so it never really had the opportunity to be my regular, though it would have been. | | savnac (155), Anchorage, Alaska | | October 25, 2009 Tucked away in a strip mall. You walk in and instantly are amazed. Lots of bottled beers to buy in 6 packs and singles, but also a couple beers on tap for sampling or pints. You can drink any beer there for a corking fee. The staff is very friendly and gave us samples of everything they had on tap. Prices were a bit high compared to other places. Nice fun place. | | Pivoyager (63), Gaithersburg, Maryland | | September 25, 2009 What a wonderful find! The owners know and respect craft beer and try to keep their shelves filled with it. All Dogfish Head beers can be had, along with several regional beers, such as Clipper City. Gillys is also a deli where one can avail themselves of tempting sandwiches and artisan cheeses.
Don’t let the dreary strip mall location fool you. Check it out and keep it open. Rockville and the thirsty citizens need a place such as this. | | jcos (25), Maryland | | September 18, 2009 [ Updated April 25, 2012 ] I had to update my review. I wish I could politely communicate to their owns that this store has higher beer prices than anywhere I’ve ever seen in the continental United States, even in NYC proper.
I like the food at this place, and treating it as a bar, especially on Thursdays when there is no bottling fee for singles, is great. Plus you can bring in food from Urban next door too.
But I would never ever ever stock up on beer here. They have the absolute highest prices I’ve ever seen at any store anywhere in the United States, be it because of Montgomery County distributors, or their rent, I do not know.
The owners are nice, but I can’t treat this place as more than just a bar where maybe I’d take a single or two home.
