15 reviews for Cellars Wines Brews and Spirits Inc (Larpenteur Ave) (OUT OF BUSINESS)
TaydaTot (3), Minnesota does not count - explanation | | January 12, 2009 This is my number one beer store. I drove 50 minutes round trip to check out The Four Firkens specialty beer store in St. Louis Park and Cellars still had a wider selection and better prices (Four Firkens is still a great store). Best beer selection I’ve seen. Great individual bottle selection of regional, national and international craft beer. 10% discount if you mix a six pack. Hundreds of Belgian selections. Dozens of German selections. Even many Scandinavian selections. My only caveat is that their staff gets antsy if I spend more than ten minutes looking. And it closes at 8 on Monday and Tuesday. | crowderm (5), Recklinghausen, Germany does not count - explanation | | April 10, 2008 Awesome place. Everyone that works here really knows what they are talking about. The singles selection is excellent, and I really dig the 10% off on make-your-own-6-pack. Generally, the selection of american beers is second to none, while the selection of european brews is pretty decent, with some big names from england and belgium represented. I would like to have seen more german beers, but that might just be me. Really great place overall, and I can’t wait to check out the weekly tastings in the near future. | | ElGaucho (146), Minneapolis, Minnesota | | March 30, 2008 First thing I ran into when I walked into this store for the first time was fellow Ratebeerian, Badgerben, who started working there two months ago. Between Skyview, Badgerben and Brewfiend, there cannot be a beer store in America with a better all-star lineup of beer experts. The great thing about having Ratebeerians working at a place is that they think like you do, and as such you wont have to splurge on an entire 6-pack to try a new brew. The craft brew singles section (make your own 6-pack) was a little disorganized, but if that’s your only complaint, you’re in good shape. There were many selections you just don’t see anywhere else. Prices are on the spendy side, something I also noticed at US liquors, a former Cellars location in Minnetonka on Hwy 7. Perhaps that’s the Twin Cities beer market now in general? Did liquor taxes go up in the last 2 years? It seems like beer costs more here now than in Chicago. Definitely worth a visit | | Syd (26), Waconia, Minnesota | | February 19, 2008 During my 2.5 year departure from beer, these guys really became a force in the craft beer community. I started making the trip recently. I now think these guys really have the American craft brew scene - hands down. There are a bunch of US brewers here. The Belgian section, well, not near what you can find at Blue Max, but still decent. The service is great. Nice people run this place. I asked for directions to Zipps and the guy in charge logged into RateBeer to print me a map. This goes above and beyond anything I would expect. Good store, good people. | GreenWall (3), Halifax, Nova Scotia does not count - explanation | | December 20, 2007 The best service I have ever received from a liquor store. Staff was friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and generous. I’m excited about the fine beers I now get to enjoy with my friends and family. Worth the trip from Nova Scotia.
To the man who served me: sorry about that.
Kai | | KAF (68), Coralville, Iowa | | October 19, 2007 For this area you cannot get any better. The staff are more than helpful and go out of there way to make sure you find what you’re looking for. The selection is the best in the area. The weekly beer tastings with knowledgable staff is an added bonus. This store is a must visit for a person coming through and a weekly visit for locals. | | muzzlehatch (255), Burlington, Vermont | | June 28, 2007 Visited at the tail end of RBSG weekend, and despite the presence of multiple RB members working here, and the number of users who had preceded my visit, I still was able to get way more stuff than I could really afford with no trouble. Joebrew helped me out and this appears at the moment to be the best of the chain’s locations, but you can’t really do wrong with any of them -- a really quality operation. Nicely laid out, and good beer is definitely the focus; best singles selection I’ve seen in the Twin Cities and also the best selection of high-end stuff. A bit of a hike from most other beer destinations, but well worth the effort. | Retro42 (1), St Paul, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | June 26, 2007 Great place. Tons of singles and a great selection of beers. Staff is extremely helpful and able to answer any question I throw at them. Tastings are every Friday and always worth attending. | | badgerben (79), Blaine, Minnesota | | June 26, 2007 Very good selection of domestic singles. They do seem to get their hands on damn near every rare release that’s possible to get in the state. Good Belgian selection and a decent array of the rest of Europe. Small cooler for a few six packs plus Surly. Tastings almost every Friday night by Joebrew are excellent. Great staff. | | OSLO (80), Perth, Australia | | June 17, 2007 [ Updated May 2, 2008 ] I pretty much go here every friday when I am in the area. People are usually fairly friendly and helpful. Good selection of beers, and love being able to make my own 6 packs. Beer tastings are also great, too bad they are moving to Wednesdays. |
